Job Summary
A Commercial Carpenter is responsible for constructing, installing, and repairing structures and fixtures in commercial settings such as office buildings, retail spaces, schools, and industrial facilities. This role requires precision, knowledge of building codes, and the ability to work with a variety of materials and tools to meet project specifications and deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and project specifications
  • Measure, cut, and assemble wood, metal, and other materials
  • Install frameworks, walls, ceilings, doors, windows, and cabinetry
  • Build and install fixtures such as partitions, counters, and shelving
  • Ensure all work complies with local building codes and safety regulations
  • Collaborate with contractors, project managers, and other trades
  • Inspect and repair existing structures and fixtures as needed
  • Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition
  • Follow workplace safety guidelines and procedures at all times

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a carpenter, preferably in commercial construction
  • Strong understanding of carpentry techniques and methods
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments
  • Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and OSHA standards
  • Physical stamina and strength to handle materials and work on-site
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Good communication and teamwork skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Apprenticeship completion or vocational training in carpentry (Preferred but not mandiatory)
  • OSHA certification (e.g., OSHA 10 or 30) (Preferred but can certify upon hire)
  • Experience with metal stud framing and drywall installation
  • Familiarity with commercial construction environments

Work Environment

  • Primarily on construction sites, both indoors and outdoors
  • May involve working at heights, in confined spaces, or in varying weather conditions
  • Requires lifting heavy materials and standing for extended periods
