    Job Description

    Commercial Electrical Estimator

Type: Direct Hire (full-time employee of our client)

Location: San Francisco Bay Area, CA — Onsite, Monday–Friday

    Salary: $70,000 – $112,000 per year, DOE

    About the Role

Innovation Consulting LLC is partnered with a well-established commercial electrical contractor in the Bay Area to recruit a Commercial Electrical Estimator for its estimating team. This desk drives the business: bid volume, win rate, and project margin all come down to the numbers this person builds.

The role carries bid packages from first look at the drawings through a submitted proposal — pricing labor, material, equipment, and subcontract scope, and writing the scope letter that goes out the door. It also means directing junior takeoff support and coordinating with engineering on design-build pursuits, so the right candidate is as comfortable reviewing someone else's numbers as building their own.

The selected candidate will be hired as a full-time employee directly with our client.

    Key Responsibilities

    Bid Development and Pricing

    • Build complete cost estimates covering labor, material, equipment, and subcontract scope

    • Review contract and bid documents to define scope, site requirements, and exclusions

    • Develop conceptual and budget estimates from early-stage information for design-build pursuits

    • Write scope letters and proposals, and submit complete bid packages on schedule

    • Price field change orders and evaluate scope changes as they come in

    Margin and Value Engineering

    • Build value engineering alternatives with the cost deltas to back them up

    • Apply labor rates and productivity factors to set realistic labor hours

    • Build and level RFQ/RFP packages for subcontractor and vendor pricing

    • Apply historical cost data to sharpen estimate accuracy over time

    Coordination and Team

    • Direct junior and staff-level estimators on takeoffs and bills of material, and review their work

    • Coordinate with engineering on design-build estimates

    • Attend walk-throughs, pre-bid meetings, and scope clarification sessions

    • Confer with owners, architects, engineers, general contractors, and subcontractors on estimate adjustments

    • Hand off complete estimating data, including takeoffs, labor hours, and special requirements, to project management

    Qualifications

    Required

    • 3–5 years of estimating experience in commercial or industrial electrical construction

    • Working knowledge of NEC, Title 24, CBC, and local codes

    • Proficiency with Accubid or a comparable electrical estimating program

    • Working knowledge of the construction industry and contract documentation

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel)

    Preferred

    • Design-build, design-assist, or conceptual budget estimating experience

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering or a construction-related field

    • Experience directing or reviewing junior takeoff and estimating staff

    • Familiarity with project management or document-control software

    • Familiarity with construction or financial software systems
