The Opportunity: You will serve as a foundational member of a high-growth mechanical team, directly influencing company profitability through precise project valuation. This role offers the unique autonomy to build defensible estimates while receiving direct mentorship from executive leadership. You will have a clear seat at the table, helping to shape the estimating department from the ground up.
How You Will Make an Impact:
- Execute detailed digital and print take-offs for complex HVAC systems to ensure 100% scope coverage.
- Formulate comprehensive cost estimates including labor, materials, and equipment to secure competitive bids.
- Analyze project drawings and specifications to identify potential technical risks or value-engineering opportunities.
- Coordinate with the Director of Construction to finalize pricing strategies and justify estimate logic.
- Draft clear scope narratives and exclusions to maintain project transparency and prevent scope creep.
- Attend on-site job walks when required to evaluate field conditions and integrate logistical realities into every bid.
- Facilitate seamless project turnovers by translating estimated data into actionable field execution plans.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in commercial HVAC estimating or a transferable mechanical trade.
- Proven proficiency in reading and interpreting detailed construction drawings and technical specifications.
- Advanced capability in Microsoft Excel and experience with digital take-off software.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple bid deadlines simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience:
- Experience estimating for prevailing wage, institutional, or federal project scopes.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and bring estimates to 80% completion with minimal oversight.
