Commercial & Industrial Senior HVAC Technician
Position Summary
The Commercial & Industrial Senior HVAC Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of commercial and industrial HVAC, refrigeration, and building automation systems. This position serves as the lead technician on complex projects, mentors junior technicians, ensures compliance with safety standards, and helps maintain reliable environmental systems that support facility operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair commercial and industrial HVAC equipment including:
Air handling units (AHUs)
Rooftop units (RTUs)
Chillers
Cooling towers
Boilers
Variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems
Split systems
Package units
Exhaust and supply fans
Pumps and hydronic systems
Commercial refrigeration equipment
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and control system failures.
Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on HVAC equipment.
Inspect equipment to identify deficiencies before failures occur.
Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and specifications.
Install and calibrate thermostats, sensors, actuators, and control devices.
Troubleshoot and repair Building Automation Systems (BAS) and direct digital controls (DDC).
Test refrigerant pressures, airflow, temperatures, electrical circuits, and system performance.
Recover, recycle, and charge refrigerants in accordance with EPA regulations.
Perform welding, brazing, soldering, and pipe fitting as required.
Replace compressors, motors, bearings, belts, valves, heat exchangers, and other HVAC components.
Maintain accurate maintenance records, service reports, and inventory documentation.
Coordinate work with contractors, vendors, and facility personnel.
Assist with HVAC system upgrades, renovations, and capital improvement projects.
Respond to emergency service calls during evenings, weekends, and holidays as assigned.
Train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to junior HVAC technicians.
Recommend equipment replacements and energy-saving improvements.
Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and company safety policies.
