POSITION PURPOSE
Participates in a structured internship across retail banking operations, branch and centralized lending support, processing, collections, credit analysis and review, and business development. Under the guidance of experienced personnel, learns and applies Bank procedures, regulatory requirements, customer service standards, loan processes, financial analysis, sales practices, and relationship-management techniques. Establishes development goals with assigned trainers and management, supports Bank personnel and customers, completes required reports and records, and represents the Bank professionally in business and community activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
1. Develops the knowledge and skills to perform retail branch operations efficiently, accurately, and in accordance with established standards.
Trains with experienced staff to process deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, account transfers, and cash advances; balances daily transactions and cash totals; verifies transaction accuracy; reviews deposit amounts and documents for proper endorsement and negotiability; and promptly identifies and resolves discrepancies (approximately one month).
Explains Bank products and services, helps customers identify solutions for their financial needs, opens and closes accounts using complete and accurate customer information, rents safe deposit boxes, provides authorized vault access, and orders customer checks (approximately two months).
Performs branch activities in accordance with Bank policies and legal and regulatory requirements; supports customer service and cross-selling efforts; and assists the trainer with required and special operating reports, including accurate financial data required by government regulations (approximately two weeks).
Responds to customer questions and resolves problems by listening, gathering relevant information, obtaining accurate answers, and communicating the outcome to the customer.
2. Develops the knowledge and skills to perform branch lending support functions efficiently and accurately.
Trains with experienced staff to support branch lending by verifying, compiling, and entering loan information; providing approved credit information or ratings to customers involved in loan transactions; and copying correspondence, tax records, financial statements, and other loan-file documents when requested and authorized by branch personnel (approximately six weeks).
3. Develops an understanding of processing center functions and how they support Bank operations.
Observes bookkeeping, wire transfers, ACH, online banking, credit and debit card services, merchant services, and cash-management activities within the processing department (approximately two days).
4. Develops practical knowledge of collections, lending operations, credit analysis, and credit review functions.
Trains with Special Assets personnel, assists with collecting delinquent accounts, and reviews charge-offs, bankruptcies, and nonaccrual loans (approximately eight weeks).
Accompanies the agricultural field representative during various agricultural inspections (approximately two days).
Trains in Loan Central and observes or assists with loan preparation, loan-file detailing, loan booking in the Bank’s internal system, paid-note processing, and loan maintenance and modifications (approximately two weeks).
Trains with a credit analyst and assists with analyzing financial statements, cash flow, and pricing; completing background information for credit approval packages; and preparing presentation materials for new or expanded credit proposals (approximately twelve weeks).
Trains with the credit review officer, observes lending audits, and assists in reviewing loan documents and records for potential fraud, control or performance deficiencies, excessive expenditures, and noncompliance with established policies (approximately four weeks).
5. Plans and carries out marketing and sales activities that support growth and
Profitability in the assigned market area.
6. Builds and maintains effective, professional relationships with customers.
Answers telephone calls, addresses customer questions and concerns, routes calls to the appropriate person or department, and records and relays messages accurately.
Resolves customer requests and questions promptly, courteously, and professionally.
Reviews policy manuals to understand banking regulations and follows D.L. Evans Bank policies and procedures, including compliance policies and procedures.
Keeps customers informed about relevant Bank services and policies.
Upholds the Bank’s professional reputation in every customer interaction.
Develops and maintains positive customer relationships.
7. Maintains effective coordination and working relationships with area personnel and management.
Supports area personnel as needed.
Keeps the mentor, trainer, and Human Resources informed of area activities and significant issues.
Completes required reports and records accurately and on time.
8. Performs related responsibilities as required or assigned.
Promotes D.L. Evans Bank by professionally presenting and cross-selling appropriate Bank products and services.
Participates in the local community as a representative of D.L. Evans Bank.
Maintains the professional reputation of D.L. Evans Bank.
Keeps the work area clean, secure, and well maintained.
Attends required meetings.
Performs related clerical duties as needed.
Fulfills the position’s assigned security responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS
Basic Qualifications:
Internal Candidates: Bachelor’s Degree or two years of banking experience, completion of all requirements for internal applicants contained in the Management Intern Application Packet and the ability to travel and relocate within the State of Idaho.
External Candidates: Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field and completion of the Management Intern application packet as well as the ability to travel and relocate within the State of Idaho.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Good understanding of financial services and products offered by D.L. Evans Bank. Understanding of branch operations policies and procedures.
Skills/abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication and public relations skills.
Ability to get along well with others
Ability to work in a high-stress environment
Professional appearance and attitude.
Ability to operate related computer applications and business equipment, including 10-key and business equipment including 10 key and a telephone. Solid math and bookkeeping abilities.
