Commercial Plumbing Journeyman Mechanic

A day on our team

You start your morning reviewing the day’s plan for a healthcare tenant improvement in Center City, then head to the site in your company vehicle. With the drawings and riser diagrams open, you lay out domestic hot and cold water runs, verify elevations for sanitary and storm drainage, and coordinate hanger locations with the GC and other trades. By late morning, you’re soldering copper and press-fitting stainless for a mechanical room tie-in. After lunch, a service call takes you to a nearby client where you diagnose a natural gas line issue, identify the root cause, and make a safe repair. You wrap up the day by completing digital work orders, time sheets, and a material requisition, checking in on your helper’s progress, and securing tools and equipment for tomorrow’s underground install.

What you’ll do

• Install, maintain, and repair commercial plumbing systems: domestic water (hot/cold), sanitary and storm drainage, natural gas, and compressed air.
• Interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, plumbing specs, and riser diagrams to lay out work to code.
• Rough-in and set commercial fixtures in restrooms, kitchens, mechanical rooms, and utility spaces.
• Fabricate and assemble piping in copper, cast iron, CPVC/PVC, black iron, and stainless using soldering, threading, grooved, and press-fit methods.
• Run diagnostic service calls, determine root causes of failures, and execute corrective actions.
• Plan work sequences and coordinate with GCs, site supers, and allied trades to keep schedules on track.
• Ensure compliance with IPC/UPC and OSHA requirements; model best-in-class safety on active sites.
• Care for company tools, vehicles, and equipment; promptly report deficiencies.
• Accurately complete daily work orders, time sheets, and material requests.
• Provide on-the-job guidance and mentorship to assigned Plumber Helpers.

Where you’ll work

Projects are primarily in the Philadelphia and South Jersey market, ranging from ground-up builds and tenant improvements to service and preventive maintenance across commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities.

What you bring

• 5+ years of verifiable commercial plumbing experience (new construction, TI, and/or service).
• PA and/or NJ Journeyman Plumber license strongly preferred; candidates actively pursuing licensure with strong experience considered.
• Proficiency reading commercial MEP drawings/specs and translating them into field layout.
• Working knowledge of applicable codes (IPC and local amendments); OSHA 10 or 30—or willingness to obtain.
• Self-directed with strong time management; able to work independently across multiple sites.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean record; able to operate company vehicles.
• Physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs., work in confined spaces, climb ladders/scaffolding, and perform extended overhead work.
• Professional communication and client-facing skills; comfortable with inspectors and GC personnel.
• Capable of reading prints and experienced with underground installations.

Preferred qualifications

• Backflow prevention testing/certification.
• Preventive maintenance and service contract experience.
• Background in healthcare, education, or multi-tenant commercial settings.
• Experience supervising helpers or small crews.

Compensation & benefits

• Hourly: $34.00–$46.00, based on experience and licensure.
• Overtime eligible (time-and-a-half over 40 hours per week).
