Commercial Refrigeration Field Service Specialist (HVAC/R)

Hayward, CA

A day in the life

It’s 8:00 AM in Hayward and your first stop is a neighborhood market with a walk-in cooler that isn’t holding temp. You verify pressures, trace an electrical fault, and restore optimal performance. Midday, you head to a restaurant to perform a scheduled PM on an ice machine and freezer, cleaning components and documenting readings. In the afternoon, you install a replacement controller on a reach-in, explain your recommendations to the manager, and update service logs before heading home—another set of businesses running smoothly because of your expertise.

What you’ll take on

  • Install, service, and repair commercial refrigeration equipment, including walk-in coolers, freezers, and ice machines.
  • Diagnose performance issues, identify root causes, and restore systems to peak efficiency.
  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance and detailed inspections.
  • Communicate clearly with clients about findings, options, and next steps to deliver exceptional service.
  • Keep precise records of calls, repairs, parts used, and maintenance activities.
  • Stay current on new refrigeration technologies and industry best practices.
  • Work safely and comply with all applicable codes and safety protocols.

What you bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in refrigeration/HVAC preferred.
  • Hands-on experience as a refrigeration technician (or closely related role).
  • Strong knowledge of refrigeration components and system operation.
  • Comfort working with electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Sharp troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with a team as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • EPA refrigerant handling certification is a plus.
