Commercial Relationship Manager – Path to Market Manager

A well-established community bank is seeking an experienced Commercial Relationship Manager for its East Lansing, Michigan market. This position provides a leadership opportunity as the Market Manager based on performance, leadership, and market growth experience.

This individual will drive commercial loan production, develop new business, expand existing relationships, and build a strong presence throughout East Lansing and the Greater Lansing business community.

The ideal candidate will be an established commercial lender with a proven local book of business, strong community relationships, and a successful track record in loan production, portfolio management, and business development. Treasury Management experience is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop new commercial banking relationships through prospecting, referrals, networking, and community involvement.
• Maintain a visible presence throughout the East Lansing and Greater Lansing business communities.
• Originate and grow commercial loans, deposits, and Treasury Management relationships.
• Generate new business from prospective clients, existing portfolio relationships, and referral partners.
• Structure commercial loan requests based on client needs, repayment capacity, collateral, risk, and credit strength.
• Manage and grow an assigned commercial loan portfolio while identifying opportunities to deepen relationships.
• Partner with Credit Administration, Loan Operations, Retail Banking, and Treasury Management to provide an exceptional client experience.
• Develop referral relationships with CPAs, attorneys, developers, appraisers, real estate professionals, business owners, and community leaders.
• Represent the institution through chambers of commerce, professional associations, volunteer organizations, and community events.
• Demonstrate the leadership, management, business judgment, and market-development capabilities required for future advancement.

Qualifications

• 4–6+ years of commercial lending or commercial banking experience.
• Proven ability to originate, manage, and grow a commercial loan portfolio.
• Demonstrated success in commercial loan production, deposit generation, and relationship expansion.
• Established relationships and a proven book of business within East Lansing, Lansing, or the surrounding market strongly preferred.
• Strong business-development, networking, and relationship-management skills.
• Treasury Management and commercial deposit experience are highly valued.
• Meaningful involvement with chambers of commerce, nonprofit organizations, professional associations, or other community groups is preferred.
• Excellent communication, presentation, analytical, and organizational abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple client relationships, loan opportunities, and portfolio responsibilities effectively.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent banking experience preferred.
