Position Title: Commercial Retaining Wall Superintendent
Location: Mid-Atlantic Region / Travel Required
Travel Requirement: Approximately 50% overnight travel

Position Summary

A growing commercial retaining wall and site development contractor is seeking an experienced Superintendent to oversee retaining wall construction projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. This role is responsible for managing field operations, coordinating crews and subcontractors, ensuring safety compliance, maintaining schedules, and delivering high-quality retaining wall installations on commercial and heavy civil projects.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in site development, earthwork, grading, excavation, utilities, or retaining wall construction, with proven leadership experience managing field personnel and multiple active projects. This position requires the ability to travel extensively and oversee projects in various geographic locations.

Responsibilities

• Supervise day-to-day field operations for commercial retaining wall construction projects
• Coordinate and manage field crews, subcontractors, equipment, and materials
• Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and according to quality standards
• Read and interpret construction drawings, grading plans, specifications, and project schedules
• Conduct site inspections and monitor workmanship throughout all phases of construction
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, inspectors, vendors, and clients
• Oversee excavation, grading, drainage, foundation preparation, wall installation, backfill, and erosion control activities
• Maintain daily reports, production tracking, safety documentation, and project updates
• Enforce OSHA safety standards and company safety policies
• Identify and resolve field issues proactively to avoid project delays
• Schedule labor, equipment, and deliveries to maximize efficiency
• Participate in project meetings and provide progress updates to management
• Train and mentor field personnel while promoting a positive team environment
• Travel to various project sites as required

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a Superintendent, Foreman, or Lead Superintendent in commercial construction, site development, heavy civil, or retaining wall construction
• Strong knowledge of retaining wall systems, excavation, grading, drainage, and earthwork operations
• Experience managing commercial or heavy civil construction crews
• Ability to read blueprints, site plans, and construction documents
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
• Proficiency with construction scheduling and daily reporting
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations and jobsite safety standards
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record required
• Willingness and ability to travel overnight approximately 50% of the time

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with MSE walls, segmental retaining walls, cast-in-place walls, or specialty wall systems
• Background in site utilities, grading, or roadway/sitework construction
• OSHA 30 Certification
• Experience operating or managing heavy equipment crews
