About the Role:
The Traveling Superintendent, Construction Superintendent, or Commercial Construction Site Superintendent is responsible for leading on-site operations for commercial construction projects, ensuring projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with quality and safety standards. This role requires strong field leadership, subcontractor coordination, and construction management expertise, with frequent travel to project sites. The position plays a critical role in driving project execution while mentoring junior field staff and maintaining high-performance job sites.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead daily on-site construction operations, ensuring adherence to project schedules, budgets, and safety standards.
  • Supervise and coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel across multiple trades to maintain efficient workflow and productivity.
  • Develop and maintain detailed construction schedules, short-term lookaheads, and sequencing plans to drive timely project completion.
  • Enforce job site safety protocols, conduct safety meetings, and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and industry standards.
  • Monitor quality control processes, perform inspections, and ensure all work meets project specifications and construction best practices.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily reports, progress logs, incident reports, and field updates.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers, engineers, and stakeholders to resolve issues, manage risks, and ensure project alignment.
  • Mentor and train Assistant Superintendents and field staff, supporting professional development and improving team performance.
  • Manage site logistics, material deliveries, equipment usage, and site conditions to optimize efficiency and minimize delays.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Superintendent, Construction Superintendent, or Site Supervisor in commercial construction.
  • Proven experience managing subcontractors and coordinating multiple trades on active construction job sites.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, scheduling, blueprint reading, and project execution processes.
  • Proficiency with construction management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or similar project management tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet project deadlines, control costs, and deliver high-quality construction outcomes.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask in fast-paced construction environments.
  • Solid understanding of OSHA safety standards and commitment to maintaining a safe job site.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working on large-scale commercial construction projects such as manufacturing facilities, retail spaces, multifamily developments, or institutional buildings.
  • Previous experience mentoring or supervising Assistant Superintendents or junior field staff.
  • Advanced proficiency in scheduling software such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
  • Familiarity with lean construction practices, quality assurance programs, and field productivity optimization.
  • OSHA 30 certification or other relevant construction safety certifications.
