We're looking for a Commercial Loan Underwriter to evaluate commercial loan applications and make sound credit decisions that support responsible growth. You'll dig into financial statements, credit reports, and market conditions, then work closely with loan officers and management to structure loans that balance client needs with institutional risk tolerance. It's a role with real influence: your analysis and recommendations directly shape the health of the lending portfolio.
What You'll Do
Review and analyze commercial loan applications, including financial statements, tax returns, and credit reports, to assess creditworthiness
Spread financials and calculate key ratios (DSCR, leverage, liquidity, global cash flow) using loan origination software
Evaluate and value collateral, including real estate, business assets, equipment, and receivables/inventory; order and review appraisals, environmental reports, and title work
Assess industry, market, and management risk as part of the credit decision
Structure loan terms, including rate, term, covenants, guarantees, and collateral requirements
Present credit recommendations to loan committee or management per authority limits
Monitor covenants, reporting requirements, and risk ratings post-closing
Partner with loan officers and closing staff to keep processing timely and accurate
Maintain audit-ready files and stay current on regulatory and industry changes
What You Bring
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
3+ years in commercial loan underwriting or a similar credit analysis role
Strong grasp of financial statements, credit analysis, and commercial lending regulations
Proficiency in loan underwriting software and Microsoft Office
Formal credit training (RMA or similar) a plus
Preferred
Strong background in commercial real estate and C&I lending
Experience with SBA, real estate, construction, or agricultural lending
Familiarity with applicable federal lending compliance requirements (BSA/AML, Reg B/ECOA)
Sharp analytical and communication skills, with sound judgment under deadline pressure
