The Commercial Underwriter I supports the bank’s commercial lending activities by analyzing borrower financial information, evaluating credit risk, and preparing well-supported credit recommendations. This role underwrites routine commercial and commercial real estate credit requests, evaluates repayment capacity and collateral, and assists with ongoing monitoring of commercial relationships. The Commercial Underwriter I works closely with lenders, the Director of Lending, and Loan Servicing to support sound credit decisions, maintain strong credit quality, and ensure lending activities remain consistent with bank policy and regulatory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in finance, accounting, business, or related field preferred
• 2 years experience in credit analysis, commercial lending, accounting, audit, finance, or related field
• Knowledge of financial statement analysis, cash flow analysis, and commercial credit fundamentals.
• Demonstrated understanding of commercial lending, loan structure, collateral, and credit risk
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn bank credit and financial analysis systems

Key Responsibilities

• Underwrite commercial loan requests, renewals, modifications, and extensions.
• Analyze borrower and guarantor financial statements, tax returns, cash flow, credit history, collateral, and other financial information
• Evaluate overall credit risk and provide well-supported recommendations.
• Prepare credit analysis, annual reviews, Deal Concept Memos, and other lending documentation as assigned
• Recommend appropriate risk ratings and identify adverse trends, policy exceptions, or emerging credit concerns
• Monitor commercial relationships, including financial reports, covenants, borrowing bases, & other requirements.
• Work with Director of Lending, Lenders, and Loan Servicing to obtain documentation, resolve outstanding items, support timely loan decisions, portfolio monitoring, credit analysis, and other lending initiatives as needed
• Follow all lending, security, risk, and compliance protocols alongside bank policies and procedures

• Some travel to branch or offsite locations may be required.

• Demonstrate confidentiality, integrity, and sound judgment in all interactions.
• Must be able to work evenings and weekends as business needs dictate.
