Job Position: Commercial Voice & Data Systems

Location: San Marcos, TX 78666

Pay Rate:$22-28/hr

TradeSTAR is hiring experienced Telecom Technicians for commercial telecommunications and structured cabling projects throughout the San Marcos area. These positions support commercial construction, higher education facilities, healthcare environments, manufacturing sites, distribution centers, and enterprise network infrastructure deployments.

We are seeking technicians with experience installing, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting copper and fiber optic cabling systems in commercial environments.
Job Responsibilities
Install, route, and support voice, data, and telecommunications cabling systems
Pull Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, single-mode fiber, and multi-mode fiber through conduit, cable tray, ladder rack, J-hooks, and underground pathways
Terminate copper cabling on patch panels, keystone jacks, 110 blocks, and network hardware
Install and terminate fiber optic backbone and horizontal distribution systems
Perform fusion splicing, mechanical terminations, and fiber enclosure installations when required
Build and dress MDFs, IDFs, network racks, ladder rack systems, and cable management infrastructure
Install wireless access point cabling and support enterprise wireless deployments
Perform cable certification using Fluke DSX analyzers and conduct fiber testing utilizing OTDRs, power meters, and light source equipment
Read and interpret blueprints, riser diagrams, rack elevations, floor plans, and telecommunications drawings
Label and document cabling infrastructure in accordance with ANSI/TIA standards and project specifications
Troubleshoot connectivity issues, cable faults, attenuation problems, and infrastructure deficiencies
Maintain quality control standards and ensure all installations meet customer and project requirements

Technical Requirements
1+ years of commercial telecommunications or structured cabling experience
Experience installing and terminating copper and fiber optic cabling systems
Knowledge of ANSI/TIA standards, telecommunications infrastructure, and structured cabling best practices
Experience with MDF/IDF environments, rack buildouts, and cable management systems
Ability to read and interpret telecommunications drawings and construction documents
Familiarity with cable certification testing and fiber testing methodologies
Ability to work from ladders, lifts, and in active commercial construction environments
Reliable transportation and industry-standard hand tools required

Preferred Experience
Fluke DSX cable certification testing
OTDR testing and fiber troubleshooting
Fusion splicing
BICSI standards and installation practices
Healthcare, education, manufacturing, or enterprise network environments
