Description

The Commissioning Coordinator supports the successful testing, validation, and turnover of Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and Electric Vehicle (EV) infrastructure projects by managing all office-based commissioning activities. This role ensures seamless coordination between project management, field commissioning teams, engineering, and clients. The Commissioning Coordinator is responsible for documentation control, test report compilation, data validation, and site configuration on monitoring portals to ensure every project is accurately commissioned, monitored, and closed out in compliance with company and client standards.

Responsibilities

  • Commissioning Coordination & Scheduling
    • Develop and maintain commissioning schedules in collaboration with Project Managers, Engineers, and Field Commissioning staff.
    • Track project readiness, inspection milestones, and test result submissions.
    • Schedule and coordinate commissioning witnesses, utilities, and third-party inspectors.
    • Monitoring Platform Setup & Configuration
    • Create and configure new project sites on monitoring portals such as AlsoEnergy, PowerTrack, Energy Toolbase, SolarEdge, Stem, and Tigo.
    • Upload and validate system metadata including inverter models, CT orientation, communication mappings, weather sensors, and layout files.
    • Coordinate with integrators and client IT teams to establish secure VPN connections, IP addressing, and data flow to client SCADA systems.
    • Verify site data streams and ensures accurate production, irradiance, and environmental reporting prior to system turnover.
  • Documentation & Reporting
    • Manage all commissioning documentation including pre-functional checklists, test scripts, and performance verification reports.
    • Compile and organize test data, photos, redlines, and field reports into final turnover packages.
    • Maintain document version control and digital archives compliant with QAQC and ISO-style standards.
    • Prepare summary reports, punch lists, and non-conformance logs for internal and client review.
  • Data Management & Validation
    • Review and validate field test results for accuracy and completeness (insulation resistance, IV curve, inverter configuration, EMS dispatch, etc.).
    • Compare monitoring data with modeled performance (PVsyst, Helioscope, SAM) to confirm production expectations.
    • Monitor live system data post-commissioning to verify stable performance and identify underperformance trends.
  • Communication & Coordination
    • Coordinate with software vendors and monitoring platform representatives for issue resolution, device mapping, and account management.
    • Support field staff by issuing updated test procedures, equipment configuration sheets, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Quality Assurance & Compliance
    • Ensure commissioning documentation aligns with contractual requirements, utility interconnection procedures, and safety standards (NEC, NFPA, IEEE, UL).
    • Track and verify closure of punch list items, corrections, and retests prior to turnover.
    • Support internal QA/QC audits and lessons-learned initiatives.
    • Process Improvement & Support
    • Assist in developing standardized commissioning templates, test forms, and reporting tools.
    • Identify workflow inefficiencies and implement process improvements between Engineering, Construction, and QAQC teams.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 2-5 years of experience in project coordination, commissioning, or data management within solar, ESS, or electrical infrastructure.
  • Experience with monitoring and SCADA platforms such as AlsoEnergy, PowerTrack, SolarEdge, Energy Toolbase, or similar required.
  • Familiarity with Modbus, TCP/IP networks, VPN configuration, and data acquisition hardware preferred.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, SharePoint, Bluebeam, and data-tracking tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical one-lines, I/O schedules, and test procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for technical correspondence and client interaction.
  • High attention to detail and strong follow-through in managing document flow and project deliverables.
  • Understanding of QA/QC processes, commissioning workflows, and utility interconnection standards.
  • Certifications such as PMP, CQM-C, or NABCEP (or willingness to pursue) are a plus.
