Job Title: Commissioning Project Manager I / Commissioning Project Manager II

Location: Tempe, AZ (Relocation Assistance Considered)

Travel Requirement: 25–40% Regional Travel (Reimbursed)

Compensation: $100,000–$136,000 annually (based on level and experience)

Position Overview

Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking experienced Commissioning Project Managers (Level I & II) to support complex building commissioning projects throughout the region. This role is responsible for managing multiple concurrent projects while overseeing schedules, deliverables, budgets, resources, and project execution.

The ideal candidate will possess strong project leadership experience, technical knowledge of building systems, and the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, contractors, engineers, architects, and cross-functional teams. This role serves as a central point of coordination to ensure project success, operational efficiency, and high-quality deliverables throughout the commissioning process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage overall project execution while ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, and deliverables

  • Coordinate with internal teams and project stakeholders to maintain project progress and client satisfaction

  • Track project milestones, KPIs, and performance metrics to support project health and continuous improvement

  • Maintain project budgets and monitor financial performance throughout project lifecycle

  • Create and manage project scope trackers, resource plans, and forecasting schedules

  • Develop and distribute project status updates and progress reporting to stakeholders

  • Review project scopes and proposals to ensure clarity, completeness, and execution accuracy

  • Identify project risks and implement corrective actions when performance gaps arise

  • Support scope development, project planning, and pricing activities for new opportunities

  • Manage resource utilization across multiple projects to support operational and financial goals

  • Mentor and support commissioning team members through coaching and training initiatives

  • Assist with development and continuous improvement of commissioning standards and processes

  • Lead commissioning-related activities including design reviews, planning, testing coordination, and owner training initiatives

  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and results-driven team environment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field required

  • 3–5+ years of commissioning, construction, engineering, or related experience

  • Experience with mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), controls systems, or building operations

  • Strong understanding of construction processes and project lifecycle management

  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously in fast-paced environments

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Experience using cloud-based project or commissioning software platforms preferred

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills

  • Ability to prioritize work, manage deadlines, and drive project execution

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineering Intern (EI) or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure

  • Project Management certification (PMP, PgMP, or similar)

  • Commissioning certifications such as NEBB, ACG, BCxA, ASHRAE, or related credentials

  • Prior leadership or team management experience preferred

Work Environment

  • 25–40% travel to project sites and office locations throughout the region

  • Combination of office, construction site, and field environments

  • Exposure to active construction environments and outdoor elements

  • Ability to navigate ladders, stairs, ramps, and confined spaces as needed

  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing, and movement throughout project sites

  • Ability to lift and move materials or equipment up to 50 pounds as needed
