POSITION DUTIES

A Commitment Records Specialist, Lead is the lead level of work establishing and maintaining commitment records files and resolving problems in the calculation of incarcerated individual sentences. Employees in this classification ensure compliance with State laws, court orders and the regulations and policies of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. Employees interact with the public, incarcerated individuals, attorneys and officials to provide information and resolve concerns. Employees in this classification assign and review the work of and train lower-level Commitment Records Specialists.

Employees in this classification receive general supervision from a Commitment Records Specialist Supervisor. The work may be performed in a correctional and/or detention facility environment. Employees are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and may be required to work on evenings, weekends and holidays.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet all minimum qualifications to be considered, and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying.

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience in reviewing, verifying, and interpreting information in order to make determinations and resolve problems involving the calculation of prison sentences in accordance with applicable laws, and the regulations and policies of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

1. Experience making informed work decisions in accordance with court policies and legal regulations across Circuit and District Courts to prepare judiciary paperwork, including commitments and releases utilizing MDEC and OCMS.

2. 1 to 3 years as a law clerk working in the State or Federal Circuit or District Court.

Employees in this classification are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the employee can be reached.
