USDA manufacturer based out of the Souderton, PA area is seeking a Commodity Sales Manager that will be responsible for maximizing the revenue and volume turnover of fresh, frozen, and bulk meat products (primals, subprimals, trimmings, and co-products). This role operates in a fast-paced, high-volatility environment where profitability depends on executing daily spot-market trades and structuring short-to-medium-term forward contracts. The ideal candidate deeply understands livestock market dynamics, processing yields, and cold storage balances, utilizing this data to move volume efficiently while protecting packer margins. This position offers remote/hybrid flexibility.
Daily Market Trading & Execution: Execute daily spot and forward sales of fresh and frozen bulk meat products, balancing immediate inventory pressures against market price curves.
Volume Positioning & Inventory Clearing: Partner with production and plant operations to monitor daily livestock slaughter numbers and cold storage levels, proactively clearing volume to prevent product distress.
Contracting & Pricing Strategy: Negotiate and manage formula-based pricing mechanisms and index-linked contracts with high-volume buyers, retail grinds processors, and food service distributors.
Market Intelligence & Arbitrage: Continuously analyze industry benchmarks (e.g., USDA cutout values, livestock futures, cold storage data) to identify geographic, seasonal, or export arbitrage opportunities.
Customer Portfolio Management: Maintain and expand a robust network of commodity buyers, brokers, wholesalers, and international traders to ensure continuous multi-channel demand.
Risk Mitigation: Manage credit limits and counterparty risks for high-volume transactions, adjusting forward commitments based on projected livestock availability and market volatility.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business, Animal Science, Food Marketing, Finance, Economics, or a related field preferred.
Experience: 5+ years of commodity sales or trading experience specifically within the meat manufacturing, poultry processing, or livestock packing industries.
Market Fluency: In-depth knowledge of carcass cutout economics, processing yields, seasonal demand trends, and agricultural commodity risk management (futures/hedging basics).
Sales Acumen: Proven track record of operating in high-volume, margin-sensitive environments with strong transactional negotiation and relationship-building skills.
Technical Skills: Proficiency with ERP systems, inventory management software, and commodity market data platforms (e.g., Urner Barry, Reuters, or internal BI tools).
Availability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that requires constant monitoring of real-time market shifts and immediate decision-making.
