Job Description

About the Role
Support a focused, six-month accessibility initiative. You'll coordinate efforts to bring public health forms, digital content, and web pages into compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1) accessibility standards, working closely with the agency's public affairs team to ensure public-facing materials are usable and accessible for all residents.

What You'll Do

  • Review existing forms, documents, and web content for compliance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards
  • Collaborate with program teams to revise, rewrite, or redesign materials — covering plain language, document structure, color contrast, and alternative text
  • Partner with web teams and program areas to ensure HTML content, PDFs, and interactive elements are accessible and properly remediated
  • Use project tracking and accessibility checker tools to monitor progress, flag risks, and keep deliverables on schedule
  • Provide guidance, training, and best-practice recommendations to content creators and publishers
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews to confirm accessibility corrections were implemented correctly
  • Prepare reports summarizing compliance improvements, outstanding issues, and long-term recommendations
  • Stay current on accessibility standards and industry best practices

What You Bring

  • 2+ years of experience in technical writing, digital communications, or web content
  • 2+ years of WCAG 2.1 Level AA compliance experience
  • 2+ years of experience with accessibility tools such as WAVE, Axe, or similar
  • 2+ years of experience creating plain language content
  • Strong understanding of accessible digital communication principles — document tagging, semantic structure, screen reader compatibility
  • Strong computer skills, including Word, Adobe Acrobat, and related platforms
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines and coordinate across teams
  • Strong attention to detail

Nice to Have

  • Project tracking and progress monitoring experience
  • Familiarity with content management systems and web publishing workflows
  • Experience in government, public health, or other regulated environments
  • Accessibility certification (CPACC or WAS)

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent work experience.
