Description

Overview:

The Equity & Inclusion Cabinet is seeking a Communications Manager to lead strategic communications, media relations, and digital content development under the direction of the Communications Director. This role requires a versatile communicator who can seamlessly blend writing, graphic design, and digital strategy while managing multiple priorities and ensuring brand consistency across all platforms. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and adept at executing communication initiatives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Communications & Media Relations:

  • Develop and execute communication plans aligned with the Cabinet’s mission, ensuring clear objectives, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Write and edit press releases, talking points, media advisories, and marketing materials.
  • Support media relations by managing press outreach, tracking coverage, and coordinating media opportunities.

Digital & Content Strategy:

  • Develop and maintain content calendars for social media, email marketing, and website updates.
  • Oversee website content management and ensure accessibility and accuracy (experience with Drupal, WordPress, or other CMS platforms is preferred but not required).
  • Lead social media strategy and content creation, ensuring alignment with the City’s brand.
  • Manage email marketing campaigns and digital outreach efforts.

Graphic Design & Multimedia:

  • Design reports, presentations, social media graphics, and branded materials using Canva and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
  • Assist in planning and executing video and multimedia storytelling projects.
  • Ensure brand consistency and visual cohesion across all materials and platforms.

Project Management & Workflow Coordination:

  • Track progress on key communications projects, managing deadlines and deliverables effectively.
  • Maintain organized workflows to streamline content production and approval processes.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure the timely execution of communication initiatives.
Minimum Entrance Qualifications:
  • Four (4) years of experience in communications, public relations, graphic design, or digital marketing.
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field required.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with prior experience drafting public-facing materials.
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and Canva.
  • Experience managing website updates via Drupal, WordPress, or other CMS platforms (preferred but not required).
  • Familiarity with social media strategy, email marketing, and video production.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple initiatives and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment, engage with stakeholders, and adapt to shifting priorities.
