Position Purpose

The Communications & Marketing Manager is a hands-on leadership role responsible for driving the organization’s brand presence, communications, and marketing efforts. This is a working manager position: the person in this role sets direction alongside the leadership team and also personally executes the day-to-day work — content creation, social media, email marketing, and newsletters.

Overview

The Manager participates in marketing planning and budget development with the VP of Operations and the broader leadership team and serves as the primary point of contact with an outside marketing agency on select projects such as advanced graphic design, video production, or website work. The ideal candidate combines strong creative and writing skills with the initiative to execute independently and the judgment to know when to bring in outside support.

Objectives

  1. Collaborate across ministry programs to identify and prioritize communication and marketing needs in alignment with the organization's mission and values.
  2. Serve as liaison between internal staff and the external marketing firm to coordinate and implement strategies and deliverables.
  3. Maintain and manage an internal communications calendar for all ministry areas, campaigns, and events.
  4. Ensure that all messaging and branding remains clear, consistent, and mission-aligned across digital and print channels.

Areas of Responsibility and Essential Position Functions

1. Strategic Communications & Marketing

  • Partner with the leadership team to develop and execute the annual communications and marketing plan.
  • Identify marketing trends, tools, and platforms and recommend approaches that fit the organization’s goals and budget.
  • Serve as the organization’s subject matter expert on communications and marketing.

2. In-House Content Creation & Digital Marketing

  • Social Media: Own all organizational social media accounts — content creation, scheduling, community engagement, and analytics reporting.
  • Newsletters: Write, produce, and distribute internal staff newsletters and external donor/stakeholder newsletters on a regular schedule; manage subscriber lists and track performance.
  • Blog & Content: Write blog posts, program spotlights, and other web content that supports SEO and audience engagement.
  • SEO: Manage basic on-page SEO, including keyword use and metadata.
  • Email Marketing: Build and send email campaigns to donors, partners, and staff.
  • Copywriting: Produce copy for appeals, campaigns, and print or digital materials, coordinating with the agency on website copy as needed.

3.Agency & Vendor Coordination

  • Serve as the day-to-day point of contact for the outside marketing agency on select projects — advanced graphic design, video production, or website work. This is a smaller, more limited part of the role than it has been historically; most content is now created in-house.
  • Brief the agency on projects, timelines, and brand direction, and review deliverables for alignment with brand standards.
  • Coordinate scheduling and logistics for agency-produced video and design projects.
  • Track agency spend against budget.

4. Events, Budget & Brand

  • Design presentations and visual materials for fundraising events, donor meetings, and board presentations.
  • Provide basic A/V support at organizational events as needed.
  • Lead promotion for fundraising events through social media, email campaigns, and event pages.
  • Help build and manage the annual marketing budget in partnership with the VP of Operations; track spend and report variances.
  • Maintain brand guidelines and ensure consistent messaging and visual identity across all channels.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years of experience in communications or marketing, ideally in a role that combined strategic planning with hands-on execution.
  • Nonprofit or ministry experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience coordinating with outside vendors or agencies a plus.
  • Project coordination and task management.

Technical Skills

  • Working knowledge of social media management tools and email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact, HubSpot, etc.).
  • Microsoft Office Suite, including strong PowerPoint skills.
  • Familiarity with website content management systems (WordPress or similar) and basic analytics (Google Analytics/GA4).
  • Skills in graphic design, video editing, or social media content creation are a plus.

Competencies

  • Hands-On Leader: Comfortable both setting direction and doing the work personally.
  • Creative Communicator: Writes and creates with clarity, creativity, and a consistent brand voice.
  • Relationship Builder: Builds trust with staff, the leadership team, vendors, and donors.
  • Data-Informed: Uses analytics to evaluate performance and guide decisions.
  • Organized: Manages multiple projects and deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Mission-Driven: Passionate about the organization’s mission and represents it with integrity.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Willing to participate in staff prayer and contribute to a Christ-honoring work culture
