The Communications Officer 2 Acts as the point of contact with the general public for emergency situations, accidents, complaints, etc. at the Southern University Campus.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of experience in transmitting and receiving messages by radio or in administrative services; OR

One year of training in a business or clerical-related curriculum in a business school or technical institute; OR

Thirty semester hours of college training.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

All persons appointed to this job will be required by the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Louisiana State Police Terminal Operator Certification Program Guidelines to meet the terminal operator certification/re-certification requirement within six months of employment.

An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Receive and respond to informational requests from law enforcement officers.
  • Receive, analyze, prioritize and respond to general public complaints and inquires with complete independence. Alert the nearest law enforcement office to location and relay the information
  • Search, modify and delete computerized records for vehicle registrations, drivers licenses, wanted felonies, missing persons, unidentified persons, stolen property, etc.
  • Maintain proper record keeping.
  • Monitor Jag Safe App, I-Notification System License Plate Reader and other security cameras.
  • Other duties assigned as necessary.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: Probational

Work Shift: Night Shift (3:00 pm.-7:00 am )

Compensation: The starting rate of pay is $17.18 hourly.

  • There is a $2.25 shift differential rate included for the hours worked after 3:00 pm.
