Amazon seeks a self-motivated, experienced public relations professional to join its U.S. Policy Communications and External Affairs team. This role will enhance awareness among key media, third-party partners, and local policy stakeholders about Amazon"s positions, advocacy efforts, and positive impact on customers, industries, and the communities where it operates - with a particular focus on data center reputation. The right candidate will drive proactive media coverage related to Amazon"s positive impact, manage complex reputational and policy topics, partner with and activate third-party allies, and develop tailored messaging, strategies, and content. They possess strong media relations and strategic communications experience, are expert at translating complex technology concepts into concise and well-written narratives, have experience supporting policy initiatives, and have a demonstrated ability to work on cross-functional teams.

The ideal candidate enjoys diving deep into technology, understanding how it is shaping and redefining our world, and engaging business and technology media. This candidate also has experience in executing local public affairs campaigns via earned, paid, and social media channels. They are motivated by a dynamic, highly creative culture where the challenge of breaking new ground and redefining best practices is welcome. In this role, the candidate will have the ability to work alongside a variety of internal teams and senior leaders. The candidate must have excellent writing skills, experience driving proactive communications campaigns, and a track record of utilizing good judgement in high pressure situations.

This role will be based in the greater Washington, D.C area and may require periodic travel.

Key job responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Amazon Public Policy and Economic Development teams to drive awareness of Amazon"s state and local advocacy objectives and positive impact on customers, industries, and the communities where we operate
  • Develop communications plans, written content, and other communications assets in support of Amazon"s policy objectives
  • Support a broad range of external communications programs and events aligned with Amazon"s policy objectives
  • Establish and foster state, local, and regional media relationships by serving as a trusted source and educator about Amazon
  • Provide communications counsel to business leaders
  • Work cross-functionally to plan and execute Communications campaigns
