Summary Description: At North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives, you’ll be part of an exciting mission to build a Brighter Future for our state and rural communities, making a real difference in the lives of our 2.8 million consumer-members. This role is an important part of our communications team and creates supporting content to increase awareness of the mission and impact of North Carolina’s 26 not-for-profit electric cooperatives. In this visible position, you will build and maintain management of communication tools, develop content and expand our social media presence. Working across platforms and interdepartmentally, you will develop a strong industry network and connections with co-workers and member cooperatives.

 

Academic and Trade Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field

 

Work Experience: 3+ years of communications or marketing experience for a trade association, corporation, or agency. Experience in the energy industry highly preferred or demonstrated experience communicating on complex issues.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Research and write content, including press releases, editorial articles, FAQs, presentations, speeches, talking points, newsletter content, social media content and other communications materials
  • Create company literature and communication materials in print and electronic form
  • Assist in developing social media tactics and content that are connected to overall communications goals
  • Provide outstanding service and communication support to member cooperatives
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously for various departments
  • Monitor industry trends and emerging issues that could impact cooperatives, and make recommendations regarding communication strategies to manage issues

 

Job Knowledge:

  • Internal/external communications, including marketing communications, organizational communications and community relations
  • Using and managing communication tools and platforms
  • Use of media monitoring platform preferred
  • Creating content in traditional and digital formats
  • Measuring effectiveness of digital and social content a plus

 

Abilities and Skills:

  • Exceptional writer, with the ability to quickly create content for multiple formats
  • Interpersonal skills, including representing the brand with key stakeholders
  • Attention to detail, working well with others and meeting deadlines
  • Multitasking in a fast-paced environment under deadlines
  • Assisting in the planning, development, and implementation of projects/programs.
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).

  • Adaptable

 

Organizational: Reports to Director of Communications

 

Working Conditions: Normal working conditions, including some travel and responsibilities outside of normal business hours. Exception includes working shifts during crisis conditions, such as hurricanes and ice storms. Partial remote work option available.
