Apogee Solutions, a woman-owned small business, is seeking a Communications Specialist in San Antonio, TX to support the Air Force Medical Command (AFMEDCOM). Qualified candidates must be a US Citizen able to pass a Tier 1 background check.

The Communications Specialist will serve as the program’s lead technical writer and editor, responsible for researching, writing, and editing a wide range of technical documentation, including user manuals, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and reports. AFMEDCOM provides operational medical capability through appropriate organization, training, and equipping of medical forces to be organic components of the warfighting force.

The Communications Specialist will:

  • Serve as the primary content creator for a wide range of program materials, including developing and maintaining official guides, process documentation, and business operating procedures, as well as assisting MTFs and program leadership in the creation of clear and concise presentations, briefings, and media articles.
  • Perform regular reviews and updates of the AFMEDCOM IDES Knowledge Exchange (KX) website and ensure all content is accurate, timely, and relevant for the field, with updates occurring no less than quarterly.
  • Act as the final quality control checkpoint for all external program communications, to include editing, reviewing, and proofreading all guidance and educational materials (such as brochures, fliers, and official letters) to ensure accuracy, clarity, and completeness as well as verify the proper marking of sensitive information IAW classification guidelines.
  • Implement communication strategies to effectively disseminate program information to all stakeholders, drafting engaging content for websites and newsletters, and managing the centralized repository for all program documentation to ensure version control and accuracy.

Required Experience

  • US Citizen with the ability to pass a Tier 1 background check
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study such as management, business, or healthcare administration, or other relevant healthcare specialties such as health information management, or nursing management OR an additional 4 years of direct experience 
  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience in the military health care environment, possessing an in-depth knowledge of the AFMS organization, mission, and operations gained through Healthcare Operations, Health Information Management, or Health Information Systems activities
  • 5 years’ experience working directly within the DoD Disability Evaluation System (DES) or as a PEBLO
  • 5 years’ experience in the creation, storage, and retrieval of data in DAF and Military Health Service systems
  • In-depth knowledge of the DES process and DoD DES guidelines through prior experience creating training materials, user guides, or similar instructional documents
  • Supervisory experience is highly preferred
