The Special Education Teacher prepares students for meaningful lives by contributing to their spiritual, educational, physical, emotional, and social development. In alignment with Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) requirements, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504, and organizational policies, the teacher provides specialized instruction, support services, and individualized educational programming for community-based students with disabilities.
The Special Education Teacher develops and implements Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), collaborates with families and multidisciplinary teams, and creates inclusive learning environments that support academic achievement, behavioral growth, emotional development, and positive life outcomes. The teacher serves as a role model by demonstrating professionalism, compassion, accountability, and a commitment to the organizations mission and values.
Instruction and Student Support
Assess student learning and provide specialized instruction aligned with Wisconsin Academic Standards, IEP goals, and DPI requirements.
Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with IDEA and Wisconsin DPI regulations.
Schedule and assign instructional activities while providing timely feedback to students.
Adapt curriculum, instructional strategies, materials, and assessments to meet diverse learning and behavioral needs.
Utilize evidence-based instructional practices, interventions, and creative teaching tools to support student achievement.
Monitor and appraise students emotional, behavioral, academic, and social development.
Maintain a safe, structured, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment that promotes engagement and success.
Collaboration and Communication
Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive practices and accommodations.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, IEP meetings, manifestation determinations, reevaluations, and eligibility determinations.
Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and caregivers regarding student progress, needs, achievements, and supports.
Compliance and Documentation
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential student records and documentation.
Complete required progress reports, report cards, evaluations, and other reporting requirements.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and organizational special education procedures and timelines.
Education and Certification
Bachelors degree in special education or related field required.
Valid Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) teaching license in Special Education required
Experience
Experience working with students with disabilities in educational settings preferred.
Experience developing and implementing IEPs preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, Wisconsin special education regulations, and IEP processes.
Strong classroom management and behavior intervention skills.
Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Physical Requirements
