The Community Based Peer Specialist is an integral part of our team, providing a unique and invaluable contribution to our mission. The Community Based Peer Specialist will have the opportunity to work with individuals and groups in our community to provide support and guidance to those in need. If you have a passion for helping others and are looking for an opportunity to make a difference, this is the role for you!Job ResponsibilitiesProvide support and resources to individuals struggling with mental health, addiction, and/or homelessnessDevelop individualized recovery plans and goals with clientsFacilitate group activities, such as support groups, skill-building sessions, and recreational activitiesMaintain open communication with clients, family members, and other stakeholdersAdvocate for clients in order to access community resources and servicesConnect clients with resources and services in the communityProvide crisis counseling and de-escalation servicesMonitor clients' progress in terms of goals and objectivesFacilitate referrals to other services and programsAttend and participate in case reviews, meetings, and trainingsDocument client encounters and progress in the organization's medical records systemParticipate in outreach activities and events in the communityJob RequirementsMust have a high school diploma or GEDMust have a CRPA – Certified Recovery Peer AdvocateAt least one year of experience working in the field of mental health, substance use, or community-based servicesMust have a valid NYS driver license and reliable transportation to travel within area countyKnowledge of principles and practices of peer support, recovery-oriented services, and community resourcesDemonstrated ability to provide recovery-oriented services to individuals with mental health and/or substance use disordersAbility to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary teamAbility to effectively engage and build relationships with individualsAbility to pursue continuing education and professional developmentStrong interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to maintain professional boundariesAbility to effectively manage challenging behaviorsKnowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to mental health and substance useWe offer competitive salaries and an array of employee benefits, including medical, dental, company paid vision, company paid life, AD&D, and Long Term Disability, voluntary life, AD&D, and Short Term Disability, 401 (K) retirement savings plan with company contribution, 10 paid holiday, generous paid vacation, paid sick time, discounted pet insurance and an Employee Assistance Program.
