Youth Advocates of Sitka supports the mental health and wellbeing of youth and families. AmeriCorps members help provide enrichment opportunities, academic support, mentoring, mental health assistance, and life skills training that strengthens youth resilience and long term success. Members build supportive relationships, communicate well with staff, adapt to changing needs, and maintain a collaborative approach. Strong communication skills and readiness for local weather are essential.Members model healthy behavior, address individual youth needs, support positive behavior, and assist with problem solving. They teach social emotional skills, plan and lead youth activities, facilitate groups, support culturally relevant programming, and act as positive role models. Duties also include documentation, transporting youth, assisting with meals, and maintaining a safe environment.
