Job Description

The Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department is seeking energetic, customer-focused individuals for a flexible part-time Recreation Leader position. This role primarily supports community center operations, programs, rentals, and special events while creating a safe, welcoming, and positive experience for participants of all ages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional customer service and share information about programs, events, memberships, and facility rentals.
  • Process program registrations, memberships, rental reservations, and payments following established procedures.
  • Supervise facilities and participants, promote a safe environment, and enforce City policies and procedures.
  • Assist with youth programs, athletics, senior activities, programs serving individuals with disabilities, and community events.
  • Support daily community center operations, including opening and closing facilities, room setup and breakdown, equipment management, light custodial duties, and facility inspections.
  • Lead and participate in recreational activities, games, field trips, and special events held both indoors and outdoors.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, report safety concerns, and provide basic first aid when needed.

Required Qualifications

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:

Requires instruction that is sufficient for satisfactory job performance.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this position requires a minimum of one month of full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

Requires CPR and First Aid certification within the first year of employment.

May require a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City Driving Standards.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • General knowledge of recreational activities, including sports, arts and crafts, music, games, and special events.
  • Ability to support City events, facility rentals, and recreation programs with a flexible schedule.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to complete reports and other documentation.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 40 pounds and setting up recreation equipment and facilities.
