Bring Preventive Care Directly to the Community
At Novant Health, our Community Cruiser RNs bring essential healthcare services directly into the communities we serve. This role provides an opportunity to make a meaningful impact through health screenings, vaccinations, education, and connections to healthcare and community resources.
Working with diverse and often underserved populations, you’ll provide hands-on clinical services while helping patients better understand their health and take steps toward prevention and wellness. Whether administering school-required vaccines, conducting biometric screenings, or connecting patients with follow-up care, you’ll help make healthcare more accessible where it’s needed most.
What You’ll Do
- Provide Community-Based Care: Deliver health assessments, screenings, vaccinations, and basic clinical services in community settings.
- Administer Vaccines: Support the Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program, including vaccine administration, storage, handling, and documentation.
- Conduct Health Screenings: Perform biometric screenings including height, weight, BMI, A1C, blood glucose, and lipid testing.
- Educate & Empower Patients: Provide health education, healthy lifestyle counseling, and guidance related to preventive care and chronic disease management.
- Connect Patients to Care: Provide referrals and coordinate follow-up through Epic when screening results indicate a need for additional care.
- Support Immunization Compliance: Maintain accurate vaccine documentation in the North Carolina Immunization Registry (NCIR) and follow North Carolina immunization requirements.
- Build Community Connections: Partner with internal departments, community health educators, and external organizations to improve access to healthcare and community resources.
- Maintain Clinical Quality: Ensure appropriate documentation, equipment quality control, regulatory compliance, and adherence to clinical best practices.
- Support Outreach: Participate in initiatives designed to increase access to preventive healthcare, particularly among underserved populations.
What We’re Looking For
- Prior experience with community health or volunteerism, highly preferred.
- Prior pediatric nursing experience, highly preferred.
- Bilingual with Spanish preferred but not required.
- Education: 2 Year / Associate Degree - Nursing Degree, required. 4 Year / Bachelors Degree - Nursing Degree, preferred.
- Experience: One year relevant Esperience, required. One year experience in pediatric nursing care and knowledge of school immunization schedule, preferred.
- Licensure/Certification: RN License in the state of North Carolina, required.
- Additional Skills (required):
- Education and training: continuing education related to work duties, maintain competency with up-to-date school vaccine administration
- Knowledge and use of state vaccine database North Carolina Immunization Registry (NCIR)
- Knowledge of school vaccination schedule per North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS)
