Description

The Community Director (CD) is a full-time, 12 month, live-on staff member who is responsible for the overall supervision of college residence halls by coordinating the administrative, programmatic and developmental plans for a group of Resident Assistants (RAs), providing care, advocacy, safety, and support for a community of 300-400 residents, and performing administrative duties and responsibilities associated with hall opening, closing, emergency on-call responses, tours, maintenance safety requests and community standards hearings. The CD will provide leadership and supervision for the RAs by assisting them to create and manage living/learning experiences for all students living in diverse communities as part of the residential engagement model. The CD also serves as a community standards hearing officer, has significant on-call responsibilities and provides support for central office functions and special projects as assigned.

Actual salaries will vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to degrees attained, experience, and other considerations permitted by law. Comprehensive compensation details, including any additional benefits, will be communicated upon finalization of the employment offer.

Responsibilities

Recruit, select, train and provide ongoing direct supervision, development, feedback and opportunities for reflection for 8-12 paraprofessional staff.

Facilitate growth and development of individual staff members and promote team dynamics.

Identify students with academic, social and mental health related concerns and provide timely resources and referrals as appropriate.

Management of roommate agreements, mediation, and facilitation of room change processes

Work closely with Resident Assistant staff to support the academic mission of the college

Provide administrative leadership and oversight for assigned residential area, including Interpreting and enforcing residence hall and college policies while seeking proactive approaches in communicating these expectations with students.

Serve as a hearing officer and pursue opportunities for student learning while promoting accountability and restorative justice for the community.

Responsible for implementing protocol and managing crisis to address emergencies/crises/mental health issues including: eating disorders, self-harm incidents, alcohol and drug use/abuse/overdose, and Title IX concerns.

Respond to major crises (student death, building fire, etc) in their assigned areas to determine and carry out any additional follow-up as needed for the affected students and the greater community. Serve as a community standards officer and address allegations of violations of policies across residential communities.

Proficient program manager that supports and serves as a resource for RAs to identify, create and implement educational, cultural, and social programs that are relevant, innovative and responsive to the needs of their residents in alignment with our college mission and retention efforts.

Demonstrate ability to design and implement learning opportunities for residential students that promote a spirit of inquiry and are informed by theoretical frameworks that align with organizational outcomes, goals, and values.

Provide ongoing assessment, approval, and oversight of program proposal documentation for out-of-classroom program planning and implementation by community members, residence life staff, and academic partners, in conjunction with central staff.

Participate in the centralized on-call administrative duty rotation schedule, serving in an on-call capacity for one week at a time (24 hours a day/7 days a week during the on-duty week) and serve as first responder when emergencies such as life and well-being, mental health, and significant facility concerns occur including hospital transports, relocation of displaced students, fires or other natural disasters, safety concerns such as assaults and suicide attempts, and other serious behavioral concerns.

Provide timely and effective post-traumatic response and resources to events/situations, collaborating with other appropriate campus departments and offices

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required. Masters Degree in related field preferred, with a minimum of 1-3 years of live-in professional experience in housing and residence life.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to determine crisis response level based on expertise, skills and protocol training, effectively using campus and external resources to address issues and appropriately seek consultation from and/or escalate issues to Vice President for Student Life & Inclusion.

Strong supervision and programming experience as well as communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Ability to work in a team environment while handling a variety of administrative tasks are essential.

Excellent organizational, problem resolution and customer service skills are a must.

Attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Proficiency with computer systems and software such as housing management software, student management software, etc. and MS Office Suite software.
