DEFINITION Under close supervision, perform beginning or semi-skilled work in group leadership and/or recreation activities at the Indio Teen Center in support of Community Services Department programs, activities and services. Duties

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED Receives general supervision from the Community Program Administrator and/or Community Program Assistant.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Research, develop and implement recreational and educational programs for youth under the direct supervision of the Community Program Assistant. Participate in activities and events as assigned; including but not limited to organizing and conducting special events and/or fieldtrips. Issues and accounts for recreation equipment and maintains all supplies in good order. Reports any work orders promptly to immediate supervisor and helps in the general maintenance and upkeep of building and equipment. Assist in developing publicity for programs including brochures, newsletters, flyers, and electronic media; including outreach throughout various community events. Takes necessary precautions to ensure the safety of participants and spectators and renders first-aid as needed. Maintains accurate records of attendance, incident reports, activity and progress reports and other reports as needed.

OTHER DUTIES Attend and participate in staff meetings related to assigned program activities. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent. Coursework from an accredited college or university in Human Services, Psychology, Liberal Studies or a closely related field is highly desirable.

Experience: Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary. Example combinations include: Some experience serving as a leader or volunteer in organizations such as scouting, AYSO, Little League or recreation highly desirable and/or participation in team or individual sports or social activities.

License/Certificate: Possession of a valid Class C California driver license. Ability to obtain a CPR certificate within one year of employment.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES Knowledge of: Principles and practices of human/social services programs and operations; basic principles of mathematics; applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations; methods and techniques of scheduling work assignments; standard office procedures, practices, and equipment; modern office practices, methods, and equipment, including a computer and applicable software; methods and techniques for record keeping and report preparation and writing; proper English, spelling, and grammar; occupational hazards and standard safety practices.

Skill to: Operate standard office equipment including a computer and variety of word processing and software applications.

Ability to: Examine and verify documents, reports and transactions; prepare a variety of financial statements, reports, and analyses; prepare and/or review routine agenda reports and other correspondence; direct and review the work of assigned support staff; interpret, explain, and apply applicable laws, codes, and regulations; read, interpret, and record data accurately; organize, prioritize, and follow-up on work assignments; work independently and as part of a team; make sound decisions within established guidelines; analyze a complex issue and develop and implement an appropriate response; follow written and oral directions; observe safety principles and work in a safe manner; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships.
