THE DEPARTMENTThe Department of Economic Development & Opportunity is an innovative department that leverages Federal, State, and City resources to generate growth in property, sales, and transient occupancy taxes that pay for services citywide. The Department continuously works to implement the recommendations of the Grow Long Beach Economic Blueprint. This comprehensive plan provides policy recommendations and will further Long Beach as an innovative ecosystem that lays a foundation for entrepreneurial success from business start-up to growth.

The Department has approximately 90 employees with five bureaus: Business Development, Business Operations, Real Estate Development, Waterfront Development, and Workforce Development. The Department's mission is to create economic opportunities for workers, investors, and entrepreneurs with an annual budget of over $31 million from eight different City funds.

THE POSITION
The City of Long Beach, Economic Development & Opportunity Department has an immediate opening for one (1) unclassified, at-will Community Program Technician I to serve as staff for the Department's BizCare Program. BizCare is a program that connects diverse small businesses to important resources, such as grants, loans, and technical assistance through a proactive, community-based approach to economic and digital inclusion. Under the supervision of the BizCare Manager, the Community Program Technician I for the BizCare program will provide service in a support capacity, engaging small business owners and entrepreneurs in Long Beach to share information about resources, grants, loans, and programs that can support their businesses.

  • Under the direction of the Business Engagement Officer, serves as a key member of the BizCare team; providing clerical and administrative assistance for the BizCare suite of programs, including ongoing support for:
  • Small Business Loans
  • Level Up Long Beach
  • Green Business Certification
  • Business Support Partnerships
  • Digital Communications
  • Answers phone calls for BizCare Hotline which is open Monday - Friday from 8:00am - 5:00pm;
  • Monitors "4Biz" email to answer inquiries from business owners and others;
  • Provides in-person assistance through Pop-Ups and outreach visits;
  • Provides business owners with up-to-date information and technical assistance to access small business resources, such as grants, loans, and technical assistance that they may be eligible for;
  • Communicates with business owners and provides follow up for City programs, services, and resources;
  • Tracks small business engagement by filling out BizCare surveys and other forms of data tracking and reporting;
  • Supports communications with local partners for collaboration, outreach, and monthly Business Support Partner events;
  • Supports content creation and sharing of resources and small business stories through Social Media and biweekly Business Brief newsletter;
  • Provides administrative/implementation support for City programs such as Small Business Loans and Green Business Certification;
  • Works to review and continuously improve customer service;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
AND
  • Two (2) years of full-time equivalent professional experience providing technical support for the
    delivery of programs, activities, and services. College education in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. (proof required)
