Role Snapshot

The Community Relations Representative serves as Oglethorpe Power's face in the communities where we operate; building trust, strengthening relationships, and supporting our role as a responsible corporate citizen.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys being out in the field, connecting with people, and representing an organization in public settings. You'll work closely with local leaders, Member Cooperatives, and internal partners to support community engagement efforts and ensure strong relationships across OPC's footprint.

What You'll Do

  • Represent Oglethorpe Power in local communities, attending events such as chamber meetings, school programs, and civic engagements
  • Build and maintain relationships with elected officials, business leaders, educators, nonprofit partners, landowners, and community stakeholders
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for residents and landowners with questions related to OPC facilities
  • Partner with the 38 Member Electric Cooperatives (EMCs) to coordinate outreach, communication, and community programs
  • Support and evaluate charitable giving efforts within asset communities, aligning with company priorities and budgets
  • Coordinate and support plant tours, outreach programs, and External Affairs events, including logistics and planning
  • Assist with company-sponsored events such as the annual charity golf tournament and other community initiatives

What You Bring

  • A natural ability to build relationships and represent an organization professionally in public settings
  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working with a wide range of personalities and stakeholders
  • A proactive, self-directed approach with the ability to manage a dynamic schedule
  • Strong communication skills-both written and verbal
  • Comfort working in a role that includes frequent travel, community visibility, and event participation
  • A service-oriented mindset with a focus on responsiveness and follow-through

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Communications, Public Relations, Public Policy, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in community relations, government relations, public relations, economic development, or a related field
  • Experience working with or within electric utilities, cooperatives, or rural communities is a plus, but not required
  • Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience will be considered

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation)
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships across diverse groups
  • Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills
  • Proficiency with standard computer applications and tools
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating with internal teams
  • Comfort with a field-based role requiring up to 50% travel, including early mornings, evenings, and occasional overnight stays
