Job Summary

Under general direction, is responsible for performing professional human resources work in the Classification and Compensation Division of the Human Resources Department. Individuals in this position exercise independent judgment and perform assignments consistent with the policies and goals of the Department. Working conditions are primarily in an office environment. May exercise supervision over assigned staff.

Essential Job Functions

  • Conducts labor market surveys to determine proper salary levels for specific job classifications or series.
  • Responds to salary survey requests from other municipal entities and/or organizations on a timely basis.
  • Revises job class specifications and conducts job studies, job site visits, job analysis sessions, and incumbent interviews regarding job content.
  • Prepares evaluations for classification action determinations in response to reclassification or regrade requests.
  • Performs a variety of professional tasks in support of assigned program area.
  • Participates in the preparation and production of the Citys Pay Plan annually.
  • Collects and compiles data on assigned topics; analyzes statistics and prepares regular status reports.
  • Provides technical assistance to other City Departments concerning various human resource actions.
  • Prepares reports, program plans, and statistical analysis utilizing a personal computer and associated MS Windows-based software applications (e.g. Word, Excel).
  • Assists with projects and special assignments as assigned by management, such as taking the lead on classification studies arising out of department or division reorganizations.
  • Researches and analyzes data to obtain information for formulating projects, plans, surveys, reports, strategies, forecasts, and trends.
  • Prepares detailed reports and general correspondence.
  • May be required to coordinate and supervise the work of other employees.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university with preferable coursework in Human Resources, Public Administration, Business, Mathematics, or other related field.
  • Valid Class C Texas Drivers License.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of SAP.
  • Knowledge of statistical methodology.
  • Professional working experience with Microsoft Excel.

One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of and familiarity with related employment law and policies, such as the Fair Labor Standards Act, Equal Employment Opportunity, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis methods and basic mathematical skills.
  • Skill in utilizing personal computers and associated MS Windows- based software applications (e.g. Word, Excel) in the completion of assignments.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and use rational judgment in making work-related decisions.
