    Role Summary

    The Compensation Specialist supports the district's strategic compensation and classification programs by ensuring pay practices are equitable, competitive, compliant, and aligned with organizational goals. This position develops, documents, implements, and continuously improves procedures governing the administration of employee compensation, maintains the district's Compensation Manual, and serves as the primary coordinator for the annual districtwide Job Description Refresh Initiative.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop, document, and implement procedures for administering the district's pay practices and ensure that procedures for placement of newly hired employees and employees who change assignments are applied consistently.
    • Calculate and verify initial salary placement for new hires, rehires, promotions, transfers, demotions, and other employee status changes.
    • Review employee experience and other qualifying information to determine appropriate salary placement and creditable years of experience.
    • Ensure compensation decisions are applied consistently across similar job classifications.
    • Partner with Payroll and Finance to ensure approved salary and compensation changes are implemented accurately and timely.
    • Maintain District salary schedules, pay grades, compensation tables, and related compensation documentation.
    • Analyze salary structures to identify compression, inversion, internal equity concerns, market competitiveness, and other compensation issues.
    • Maintain historical compensation data to support trend analysis and long-range compensation planning.
    • Ensure job descriptions accurately reflect organizational needs, support compensation and classification decisions.
    • Maintain a centralized inventory of District job descriptions, job classifications, pay grades, and position information.
    • Maintain and administer the District's stipend and supplemental pay structure.
    • Coordinate the preparation, issuance, tracking, and maintenance of employment contracts for employees serving in certified and other contract-eligible positions.
    • Provide data analysis, guidance, and recommendations to promote consistent compensation practices, regulatory compliance, and an exceptional employee experience.

    Success Measures

    • Personnel transactions are completed accurately and within established timelines.
    • Employee records and compensation data remain accurate, complete, and compliant.
    • Stakeholders receive timely, professional, and solution-oriented support.
    • Annual compensation processes are implemented efficiently and with minimal corrections.
    • Opportunities to improve systems, workflows, and service delivery are proactively identified and implemented.
    • Strong relationships are maintained across departments through effective communication and collaboration.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education & Certification

    High School Diploma/GED required

    Experience

    3-5 years direct experience in Human Resources Operations and analysis of compensation programs

    Work is performed primarily in a professional office environment using standard office equipment, computers, and related technology.

    This position requires prolonged periods of sitting and frequent use of a computer, keyboard, and other office equipment.

    The role may require occasional standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting or carrying materials weighing up to 15 pounds.

    Occasional travel to district facilities, meetings, or professional development activities may be required, as well as periodic work outside of normal business hours.
