POSITION SUMMARY
Wisconsin State Fair Park (WSFP) is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented individual to serve as the Competitions Support Specialist in the Agriculture Department. This position will assist with multiple facets of Agriculture and Competitive Exhibits social media efforts and Agriculture administrative tasks. The ideal candidate will possess design skills, great attention to detail and be able to work on multiple projects efficiently in a fast-paced, collaborative work environment. Under the general direction of the Director of Agriculture, the Competitions Support Specialist serves as a member of the Agriculture Department.

EMPLOYMENT TYPE
This position is an unclassified, Dual-Limited Term Employment (LTE) position within the State of Wisconsin employment system, working an average of 40 hours per week throughout the calendar year. Annual hours worked will not exceed 2,078. More than 40 hours per week may be required, leading up to and during the annual Wisconsin State Fair.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The starting wage for this role is $23.00 to $26.00 per hour, depending on qualifications. A comprehensive fringe benefits package, including pension, health and dental insurance, life insurance and disability insurance is available after a minimum employment period is met. Annual hours worked will not exceed 2,078. Paid time off for vacation, holidays, etc. is not included as part of the benefits package per State of Wisconsin Legislature, s. 230.26(4), Wis. Stats.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Communications
  • Manage and execute social media and digital communications strategies for Agriculture and Competitive Exhibits competitions across multiple platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Mailchimp. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • creating engaging copy and posting 
    • scheduling posts
    • responding to exhibitor comments
    • answering exhibitor direct messages in a professional and brand appropriate tone
  • Work with team to create engaging, timely, unique and brand-relevant content for all platforms
  • Organize existing WSFP multimedia content library of photos and videos
  • Support the Agriculture Department by creating graphics and editing videos for social media, websites, promotional materials and other projects
  • Maintain up-to-date social media and email calendar
  • Coordinate social media efforts with Marketing Department as needed
  • Collaborate with the Agriculture team to generate creative ideas and concepts for projects
  • Ensure all designs align with the company's branding guidelines and standards
  • Update and edit copy for projects, maintaining brand consistency and accuracy

Administrative
  • Provide administrative support to Wisconsin State Fair's Agriculture Department
  • Serve as the department's point of contact, responding to general personnel-related inquiries via email, phone and in-person
  • Create, maintain and update employee personnel records
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information related to personnel and employment issues and/or concerns
  • Assist with Agriculture Department recruitment and hiring activities, including preparing and distributing onboarding documents, coordinating candidate communications, and conducting follow-up as needed throughout the hiring process
  • Communicate with candidates and schedule interviews
  • Assist with employee messaging platforms
  • Manage and fulfill ticket orders for all Judges and Service Providers
  • Create, proof and send digital agreements including annual service agreements, Agriculture awards sponsor agreements and Memorandums of Understanding
  • Integrate technology where applicable
  • Coordinate mailings
  • All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
  • At least one (1) year of experience creating and managing social media content on behalf of an employer, business, or organization, required.
  • Proficient with social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, and email marketing platforms.
  • Skilled in Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite applications, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  • Adept in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written communication, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Experience creating and editing video content is preferred.
  • Experience planning, coordinating, and executing events is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the fair and/or the agriculture industry is highly desirable.

SPECIAL NOTES
The selected candidate must be available to work all 11 days of the annual Wisconsin State Fair. This position also requires the ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends in the weeks leading up to and throughout the Wisconsin State Fair.

Prior to appointment to this position, the candidate will be subject to a comprehensive criminal background check.

Contingent on business needs and the seasonality of WSFP, up to 2 days of remote work per week is available after an initial training period. Remote work will be discussed during the interview stage. High speed internet access is needed to meet the requirements of remote work.
Anyone working at WSFP is subject to the rules and regulations related to entering WSFP competitions and must abide by the State of Wisconsin’s ethics and conflict of interest statutes and administrative rules as developed by the State of Wisconsin and State Fair Park Board of Directors. This includes that if offered this position, you or your immediate family cannot be actively selling animals for show at Wisconsin State Fair or providing any type of show consultation services and your immediate family members cannot show at Wisconsin State Fair.
