Actalent is hiring for a Complaint Investigations Technician in the Alameda area!



Job Description

This is a 6‑month, onsite, second-shift position in Alameda, CA, with the possibility of extension. As an entry-level Lab Technician in the Complaint Investigations Lab, you investigate returned medical device products to help resolve customer complaints related to blood glucose meters, strips, and sensors. You unpack and sort returned products, perform hands-on investigations using electronic test equipment, and document all findings in the complaint handling system while following standard operating procedures and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Unpack returned product boxes safely and sort products accurately by product line.
  • Investigate returned blood glucose meters, test strips, and sensors to determine root cause and support resolution of customer complaints.
  • Use troubleshooting equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, test fixtures, and microscopes to perform product evaluations and tests.
  • Document all complaint investigations clearly and accurately in the Complaint Handling System and other designated databases.
  • Perform data entry of investigation results, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to documentation requirements.
  • Follow written work instructions and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all testing and investigation activities.
  • Perform routine maintenance and updates on individual quality records to keep them current and compliant.
  • Verify that all equipment used for testing and troubleshooting is within calibration and validity periods before use.
  • Maintain organized work areas and properly handle and store returned products and lab equipment.
  • Collaborate and communicate with team members to share findings, support continuous improvement, and ensure timely completion of investigations.
  • Maintain focus and attention to detail while performing repetitive and routine investigations.
  • Participate in required in-person meetings, including at least one in-person tour, and follow all site procedures and guidelines.

Essential Skills

  • Proficient computer skills, including the ability to navigate internet-based programs and perform accurate data entry.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills, such as using Word, Excel, and Outlook for documentation and communication.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English to follow work instructions and document investigation results.
  • Ability to follow written work instructions and standard operating procedures (SOPs) precisely.
  • Strong documentation skills with attention to detail and accuracy in recording investigation activities and results.
  • Ability to maintain focus and concentration while performing repetitive and routine investigations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting and collaborate with colleagues in a laboratory environment.
  • Minimum education of a high school diploma or equivalent (such as GED) with technical experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in the medical device or biotechnology industry is preferred.
  • Technical experience, especially in electronics or laboratory work, is preferred.
  • Knowledge of electronic troubleshooting and the use of tools such as multimeters and oscilloscopes is preferred.
  • Inspection or quality assurance experience is highly relevant and considered a strong fit for this role.
  • Recent college graduates with a bachelor’s degree in a related technical or scientific field are an ideal fit for this entry-level position.
  • Ability to adapt to structured processes and regulatory requirements commonly found in medical device environments.

Work Environment

This role is fully onsite in Alameda, CA, and operates on a second-shift schedule from 1:30 PM to 10:00 PM. You work in a laboratory environment focused on complaint investigations for medical devices, handling returned blood glucose meters, strips, and sensors. The work involves frequent use of electronic test and inspection equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, test fixtures, and microscopes, as well as regular use of computers and the Complaint Handling System for documentation and data entry. The environment emphasizes accuracy, consistency, and adherence to SOPs and quality standards, with a strong focus on teamwork and collaboration. Work is often repetitive and routine, requiring sustained concentration and attention to detail. Appropriate lab-appropriate attire and any required personal protective equipment are expected in accordance with site policies.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $27.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
