The Department of Dermatology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Instructor position in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). Applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree. Applicants must have completed dermatology residency by the fellowship start date. Our estimated start date is July 31, 2027. Applications will need to be completed in full by October 15, 2026.

Responsibilities may include management of patients both acutely and longitudinally, gaining experience in prescribing and managing a range of systemic immunomodulatory and immunosuppressive medications. Members of the program are expected to be actively engaged in teaching residents both in clinical settings and in formal didactics, and mentorship in education is a key part of the program. Additionally, participants in this program are expected to be involved in research and publishing and will have opportunities to join projects that are in progress, and mentorship and support in launching their own investigative work.

The successful applicant will have an opportunity to to be mentored in not only the diagnosis and management of patients with complex medical dermatological diseases but also in teaching and research. This is a mentored experience under the direction of Dr. Misha Rosenbach, Fellowship Director, and is focused on developing skills to care for the most challenging and complex patients in dermatology, including inpatient consultative dermatology and outpatient advanced medical dermatology. The focus is on diagnosis, evaluation, and management of patients with skin signs of systemic disease, autoimmune/inflammatory diseases, and hospitalized patients with cutaneous disease.

Participants are in a hybrid role bridging ongoing training and learning in a mentored environment, and early faculty responsibilities as an independently practicing dermatologist. This ‘fellowship’ is structured to include:

• Collaborative complex medical dermatology outpatient clinics adjacent to and embedded with our advanced medical dermatology team (Drs. Rosenbach, Micheletti, Werth, and Vleugels)

• Independent outpatient medical dermatology clinics with close mentorship available

• Inpatient dermatology consult service with evolving responsibilities over the course of the year – from observer/helper, to teacher, to supervised independent practice.

The ideal participant is a senior dermatology resident or junior faculty person planning a career in academic medical dermatology with a component of inpatient consultative dermatology.
