Representative Job Duties

  • Coordinates all aspects of cross connection control, lead and copper testing, water service lines inventory, septic tank inspections and certifications, and any other State, Federal, or City regulatory programs impacting the Department of Public Works. Including tracking of requirements, record keeping, reporting, interacting with residents and business owners, and performing inspections.
  • Coordinates legal action against non-compliant parties with Southfield Legal Department.
  • Provides court testimony and presents evidence. Follow all court procedures from initiation through follow-up actions.
  • Coordinates Department inspectors to balance schedules and obtain necessary inspections and reports.
  • Prepares reports, forms, statistics, letters, court documents, invoices and other documentation to maintain files and records. Track inspections, Certificates of Compliance and amounts of fees collected i.e. application fees, permits fees, re-inspection fees and court fines

Job Requirements - As Determined By the City Of Southfield

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or Engineering or equivalent related experience in coordinating high-volume of compliance requirements
  • Four years of directly related experience including knowledge and proficiency in applicable laws, standards, zoning and other ordinance requirements, court rules, legal compliance procedures, remediation processes, certificate of compliance requirements, and other unique and varied resources to accomplish desired results of well-maintained and compliant City infrastructure, primarily water and sewer.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and GIS and the ability to navigate through internet resources.
  • Ability to prepare, organize and maintain a variety of field data, reports and systems under tight deadlines. Must be able to work independently without close supervision.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills; ability to compose tactful correspondence and maintain detailed records; Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Good judgment and positive attitude when working with the public.
  • Sufficient analytical, cognitive and physical skills to effectively perform the essential functions of the position, with or without accommodation.
  • Must possess a valid Michigan Driver's License and meet the Citys driving record standards.
  • May be sworn as a Constable, with ticket-writing enforcement powers.

FSA & Dependent Care

Flexible Spending Accounts and Dependent care through TASC are pre-tax funds that are used to cover certain out-of-pocket medical expenses and childcare costs. A total dollar amount is elected, and a debit card is sent to you to pay for incurred expenses.

Pre-tax funds are deducted bi-weekly to cover the cost of the total amount you have elected. There is an annual election limit of $3,300 for 2025.
