    MONTANA DEPT. OF CORRECTIONS

    HELENA, MT

    The Commitment Oversight & Release Section (CORS) is leading the charge for the Department of Corrections in ensuring transparency and collaboration when determining inmate placement. This team works closely with our treatment and rehabilitation partners providing support to match the unique needs of each individual, while balancing the concerns of victims and community safety.

    The Montana Department of Corrections Commitment Oversight and Release Section is seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to fill the role of Compliance Specialist. In this position, you will play a crucial role in processing and monitoring DOC Commit cases from start to finish, ensuring decisions support both public safety and rehabilitation goals. You will work closely with the CORS team to review offender information and determine appropriate placement within the correctional system.

    The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical and organizational abilities, as this role requires careful evaluation of case details, clear documentation, and consistent adherence to policy and statutory guidelines. Compliance Specialists must balance collaborative work with independent decision‑making, contributing to team discussions while also confidently evaluating cases and making recommendations based on available information.

    Effective written and verbal communication is essential. Compliance Specialists routinely document case decisions, correspond with partner agencies, and provide clear, accurate information to support the Department's mission. Adaptability, sound judgment, and a commitment to fairness and safety are core components of this role.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Processing and monitoring DOC Commit cases from intake through final placement

    • Reviewing offender history, assessments, and relevant reports to determine appropriate placement

    • Maintaining clear, thorough, and accurate documentation of decisions

    • Collaborating with the CORS team during case staffing and decision reviews

    • Applying policy, risk considerations, and rehabilitation needs to each case

    • Communicating case outcomes and decisions to internal and external stakeholders

    • Staying organized and managing multiple cases and deadlines effectively

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree in business or a related field.

    • Three years of directly related work experience.

    • Other combinations of education or experience may be substituted.

    NOTICES:

    Brady Act & Lautenberg Amendment- Any person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or is the subject of a court order of protection for "an intimate partner or child of such intimate partner" cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition (Title 18, U.S.C., Section 922(g)(91)). Candidates who have been convicted of any felony or a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or were issued a court order of protection are not qualified for this position.

    Prison Rape Elimination Act- Any person who has 1) engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, or other institution; 2) been convicted of engaging in or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse; or 3) been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in activity as described in the latter, are not qualified for this position.

    Tobacco Free- The use of all tobacco products, including smokeless tobacco products and tobacco substitutes is prohibited in Department of Corrections buildings. In secure care facilities possession of tobacco products is prohibited.
