Overview:

We are seeking a full-time Component Engineer 1 at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting multiple departments through component library management including second source identification, communicating supplier/part status, and providing resources to improve component selection.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

  • Participates in ensuring that components used in Garmin products are high-quality, reliable, and cost-effective
  • Releases and maintains component specification control drawings and component data for assigned components
  • Promotes the use of preferred components and provides alternate passive component recommendations, upon request
  • Appropriately notifies stakeholders for basic PCNs
  • Works closely with Engineering, Purchasing, Quality Assurance, and suppliers on all component issues
  • Completes small, assigned projects within commodities
Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electronics Technology or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrates understanding of key electrical component characteristics
  • Possesses basic knowledge of electrical component applications
  • Demonstrates proficiency using PC systems and applications

Desired Qualifications

  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Electronic component purchasing experience
  • Experience in Design of Experiments (DOE), statistical methods, quality standards and best practices
  • Familiarity with electronic manufacturing processes, particularly Surface Mount Technology (SMT)
  • Familiarity with various component manufacturing processes
  • Proficient troubleshooting and "bench skills"
