Department Ophthalmology
Duties & Responsibilities:
• The Department of Ophthalmology at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center supports a large health system providing both primary and tertiary care. • The advertised position is responsible for direct patient care and supervision at our downtown VCU Health campus and satellite locations. • Excellent diagnostic and surgical skills are required. • The department supports a 16 resident ophthalmology training program with a full 5-year ACGME Accreditation.
Candidate Requirements:
The candidate must maintain high clinical and ethical standards that will be carried into decision-making processes, adhere to compliance measures, establish and promote an atmosphere of unity through collaborative practice and effective communication between all staff disciplines, and foster a high level of patient and staff satisfaction. Residents and certified ophthalmic medical technicians assist with patient care and ancillary testing. A Physician Practice Group compensation plan provides an opportunity for a competitive salary. Academic appointment at the level of Assistant Associate or full Professor is available commensurate with experience.

• Candidate must be Board Certified • Board Eligible • On Pathway toward Board Certification in Ophthalmology and have completed residency training in ophthalmology • Must possess and maintain a current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Virginia • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
