The lab operates at the intersection of radiation biology, immuno-oncology, and data science, with access to rich clinical trial datasets and advanced spatial profiling platforms. This position offers the opportunity to generate high-impact insights at the interface of biology and computation, with strong mentorship and collaborative opportunities across UNC.

Position Summary

Position Overview

The laboratory of Gaorav Gupta is seeking a computational biology/data science postdoctoral research associate to lead integrative analyses of multi-omic cancer datasets. The lab focuses on DNA damage responses, tumor-immune interactions, and biomarkers of response to radiation and immunotherapy, with an emphasis on breast cancer.

This position will involve analysis of genomic, transcriptomic, and spatial profiling data, including data generated from clinical trials and preclinical models.

Research Focus

  • Integrative analysis of genomic, bulk RNA-seq, and single-cell transcriptomic data
  • Analysis of spatial transcriptomics and multiplex imaging datasets
  • Development of computational methods to identify biomarkers of therapy response
  • Translation of computational findings into biologic insights and clinical hypotheses

Responsibilities

  • Analyze large-scale multi-omic datasets (internal and public)
  • Develop and implement computational pipelines and novel analytic approaches
  • Integrate diverse data types including genomic, transcriptomic, spatial, and clinical data
  • Collaborate closely with experimental scientists and clinicians
  • Contribute to high-impact publications and grant applications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics, computer science, or a related field

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Demonstrated expertise in mutation and genomic analyses
  • Strong programming skills such as R and Python
  • Experience developing or applying computational methods
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Experience analyzing bulk and single-cell transcriptomics data
  • Experience with spatial transcriptomics or imaging-based data
  • Familiarity with public datasets such as The Cancer Genome Atlas and Pan-Cancer Analysis of Whole Genomes
  • Experience with machine learning approaches in biomedical data
  • Strong record of publications or preprints
