Job Description:
  • We are seeking an Image Data Scientist to join the Digital Pathology team in a contract capacity. This individual will contribute to the development and implementation of advanced image analysis pipelines and computational workflows supporting digital pathology initiatives.
  • The role combines computer vision, machine learning, deep learning, and image-processing expertise to improve pathology data analysis and support biologically meaningful interpretation of complex image datasets. The ideal candidate will have strong Python programming skills, hands-on experience with image analysis and machine learning workflows, and a collaborative mindset suited for interdisciplinary scientific environments.
  • The ideal candidate is a collaborative and technically strong computational scientist who is passionate about applying AI and computer vision approaches to biomedical research and digital pathology. This person thrives in cross-functional environments, communicates effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and enjoys solving complex biological problems through computational innovation.
  • Develop and apply image-processing pipelines using both traditional computer vision approaches and advanced machine learning/deep learning techniques.
  • Analyze and process large-scale digital histopathology and whole-slide imaging (WSI) datasets to support pathology evaluations and biological discovery efforts.
  • Collaborate closely with pathologists to design customized image analysis workflows aligned with scientific and translational research objectives.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of AI-powered image analysis algorithms for pathology applications, including image classification, segmentation, and related computer vision tasks.
  • Perform statistical analyses, data interpretation, and data visualizations to support scientific decision-making.
  • Partner with computational scientists, data scientists, and cross-functional research teams to continuously improve digital pathology workflows and analytical approaches.
  • Support reproducible and scalable computational workflows using modern software development and version control practices.
Required Skills:
  • MS or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in image analysis, computer vision, machine learning, or computational pathology.
  • Strong Python programming skills and experience working within the scientific computing ecosystem, including libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, and OpenCV.
  • Hands-on experience with classical and modern computer vision/image analysis methods, including machine learning-based image classification and semantic segmentation approaches.
  • Experience processing and analyzing whole-slide images (WSI) or other large-scale imaging datasets using tools such as OpenSlide or similar libraries.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git and collaborative development platforms including GitHub or GitLab.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary scientific teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Deep learning expertise using frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Keras.
  • Experience developing advanced deep learning models for digital pathology applications, including instance segmentation and object detection workflows.
  • Familiarity with object detection frameworks such as Detectron2.
  • Experience working within High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments, including use of SLURM or similar job schedulers.
  • Experience with commercial digital pathology software platforms such as HALO, Visiopharm, or QuPath.
  • Knowledge of workflow orchestration and pipeline management tools such as Dagster or Airflow.
  • Experience developing lightweight research GUIs using Python frameworks such as Tkinter or PyQt.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing environments, particularly AWS EC2, for model training and deployment.
