    COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY TECHNOLOGIST I

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Associates of Applied Science OR Graduate of an accredited radiography program.
    • Individuals who graduated from an accredited radiography program prior to 2015 are exempt from

    the Associate's Degree requirement.

    • Graduate of an accredited computed tomography program (to include UTMB cross-training

    program).

    • No experience required.

    LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS OR CERTIFICATIONS

    Required:

    • American Registry for Radiology Technologist (ARRT-R).
    • American Registry for Diagnostic Computed Tomography (ARRT-CT) or Nuclear Medicine

    Technology Certification Board NMTCB (CT) or must be eligible for ARRT-CT or NMTCB-CT

    certification and obtain within 6 months of hire.

    • Texas Medical Board certification (MRT).
    • American Heart Association (BLS).

    JOB SUMMARY

    The CT Technologist I position works independently to complete a variety of routine diagnostic CT

    procedures to include common and special CT exams of moderate complexity. This position provides

    direct assistance to physicians with all diagnostic and special CT procedures. This CT Technologist I

    position delivers exceptional patient care and adheres to CT exam standards, radiation dose

    standards and guidelines established by governing agencies to ensure optimal patient safety and

    customer service. This position is a member of the direct patient care team.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    • Promotes a positive work environment.
    • Collaborates with all members of the patient care team.
    • Uses peer-to-peer accountability towards department goals for retention and employee

    engagement.

    • Utilizes verbal, nonverbal & written communication to achieve mutual understanding.
    • Proactive in responding to patient needs.
    • Performs CT, CTA, CTP and interventional biopsy procedures to include common and specialized

    exams of moderate complexity.

    • Optimizes protocols to provide better patient care, image quality and patient experience. This

    includes: positioning, physiology, procedure preparation, and technical factors.

    • Assists physicians during diagnostic or special procedures, including assisting with sterile

    technique.

    • Utilizes AIDET incorporating Key Words and MANGAGE UP techniques, when speaking to

    patients and family members at an age-appropriate level.

    • Practices radiation safety and ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable)
    • Follows safety standards and conducts all imaging procedures accordingly.
    • Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures.
    • Complies with job role, department and hospital safety standards, practices and policies.
    • Participates in WASTE walks and supports department LEAN projects.
    • Reports near misses and inputs errors promptly into appropriate hospital patient safety reporting

    system to improve processes and identify trends.

    • Performs imaging equipment quality control (QC) ensuring all imaging equipment is in safe

    working order prior to use.

    • Utilizes critical thinking skills to observe and proactively address patient reactions (i.e.

    medications) or potential outcomes and obtains assistance, as appropriate.

    • Provides accurate and complete documentation of patient procedures. Enter charges at the time

    service is delivered.

    • Uses resources efficiently; does not waste supplies.
    • Ensures their personal timecard is accurate and approves it in a timely manner to prevent retro

    amendments.

    • Participates in department projects or shared governance activities.
    • Seeks opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies with a focus on continual

    development as a technologist.

    Marginal or Periodic Functions:

    • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
    • Performs related duties as required.

    KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

    • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job,

    • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform

    the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee

    safety or security.

    • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a

    manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles

    • Possesses basic computer knowledge; operates multiple computer systems to include, Hospital /

    Radiology Information Systems and Office software to maintain patient and exam documents.

    • Exhibits strong interpersonal and team player skills with all levels of the healthcare team and

    assures delivery of excellent customer service to all patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers.

    • Adapts to multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision including, organizing work flow and

    actively participating in problem-solving.

    WORK SCHEDULE

    This position is for up to 19.99 hours/week with no benefits. It is a variable schedule, with the expectation of taking shifts as needed. Shifts will include days, evenings, weekends, and occasiona nights. This position will mostly coiver Galveston, but may cover other campuses on occasion.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR COMPUTED TOMAGRAPHY TECHNOLOGIST II

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    • Associates of Applied Science OR Graduate of an accredited radiology program.
    • Individuals who graduated from an accredited radiology program prior to 2015 are exempt from

    the Associate's Degree requirement.

    • Graduate of an accredited computed tomography program (to include UTMB Cross-training

    program).

    • Proficient in all CT, CTA, CT Perfusion, CT Cardiac and CT Interventional procedures.
    • 3 years of experience.

    LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS OR CERTIFICATIONS

    • American Registry for Radiology Technologist (ARRT-R).
    • American Registry for Diagnostic Sonography (ARRT-CT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology

    Certification Board NMTCB (CT).

    • Texas Medical Board certification (MRT).
    • American Heart Association (BLS).
