OAC EXTERNAL POSITION POSTING Dates posted: 07/02 - 07/13/2026Position SummaryUnder direct supervision, prepare CAD drawings for gas and water main construction and create as‑built drawings utilizing Global Positioning System (GPS) and field data. This includes researching records for information. The CAD Technician I must successfully complete all training and proficiencies prior to the end of a thirty‑two (32) month training period, in order to be recommended for advancement to the position of CAD Technician II.EducationRequired - High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) plus minimum two (2) years of relevant AutoCAD or MicroStation work experience.Required - Associate's Degree or a certificate from a college or trade, vocation or technical school indicating completion of a computer-aided drafting and/or design course of study, or the equivalent.Preferred - Geographic Information System (GIS) course work.Preferred - Autodesk Civil 3D course work.Minimum RequirementsRequired - Minimum of 2 years of relevant AutoCAD or MicroStation work experience. This experience may be offset with a certificate or coursework towards a degree, from a college or trade, vocation or technical school as listed in the education details.Preferred - Recent AutoCAD or MicroStation experience, within the last two (2) years.Preferred - Geographic Information System (GIS) course work and/or work‑related experience.Preferred - Autodesk Civil 3D course work and/or work‑related experience.Licenses, Certifications and/or TestingRequired - Employee(s) in this position are covered under the Department of Transportation Drug and Alcohol testing provisions. This includes post‑offer, random, post‑accident, reasonable suspicion, follow‑up, and return to duty testing. Upon hire.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesProficiency with AutoCAD or MicroStation, with AutoCAD being preferred, and ability to translate communicated information onto CAD drawings (Intermediate proficiency).Ability to learn new or upgraded computer software as required.Ability to accept written and verbal instruction; revise and update CAD drawings in collaboration with engineers.High attention to detail.Efficient written and verbal communication skills, in English, to assist internal and external customers, co‑workers and management professionally, regardless of provocation.Proficiency with personal computers, tablets, and/or other electronic devices to include familiarity with, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word) and enterprise‑wide software (e.g., SAP).Proficiency in operating various specialized software and office equipment including, but not limited to, large format printers, plotters, copiers, scanners and communication systems.Ability to work overtime, including weekends as required.Ability to work professionally and efficiently, with increasingly limited supervision, independently and in a team environment.Essential FunctionsRead and interpret maps and engineering drawings, especially as they pertain to gas and water facilities.Prepare layouts and CAD drawings for gas and water main construction from instructions, marked prints and sketches, as requested.Learn the District's CAD standards, requirements and procedures to continually improve personal CAD skills.Research District and other records to obtain relevant information to include, but not limited to, report discrepancies/variances found and facilitate changes as directed.Clearly communicate gas and water facility record information (in various forms and by various means) to District personnel and outside agencies.Copy and file various engineering records for various purposes.Train in the duties of, and advance toward progression to, CAD Technician II.Prepare detailed as‑built drawings utilizing GPS and field data, along with populating associated completion reports, and revise permanent records.Required for All JobsPerform a variety of other duties as assigned.Understand and comply with all District policies and procedures.Physical and Environmental RequirementsOffice: Work is primarily performed in an office setting amid normal conditions of dust, odors, fumes, office lighting and noise.Hybrid Flexible Work ArrangementJob may be eligible for a hybrid in‑office and work from home flexible work arrangement.An Equal Opportunity Employer Minority/Female/Disabled/Veteran/Gender Identity/Sexual Orientation#J-18808-Ljbffr
