Position Overview Section
We are seeking an experienced Computer Engineer / Computer Scientist to support the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM). This position provides technical leadership in the design, development, and deployment of advanced data analytics, decision support systems, and artificial intelligence solutions that enhance Air Force medical research, operational readiness, and force health protection.
The successful candidate will collaborate with software engineers, data scientists, operational analysts, database administrators, and subject matter experts to develop secure, scalable, and innovative analytical solutions across multiple accredited computing environments.
Essential Job Functions
Minimum Position Requirements
Master's degree in:
Computer Science
Computer Engineering
Software Engineering
Systems Engineering
or a closely related technical discipline
Minimum 5 years of professional software development experience.
Experience developing applications in multiple programming environments, including:
Python
SQL
SAS Enterprise Guide
C++
MATLAB
Windows and Linux operating systems
Experience with systems engineering methodologies, including systems thinking and structured problem solving.
Experience using Agile software development methodologies and collaborative development tools.
Experience with software verification, validation, testing, and quality assurance.
Experience creating technical documentation, including:
Software Architecture Documents
System Design Documents
Use Cases
Test Plans
Verification & Validation Documentation
Deployment Guides
User Documentation
Experience working in a research or laboratory environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in distributed development teams.
Experience with AI development, AI model training, and AI capability assessments.
