Western Boone County Community School Corporation is looking for a Computer Technician.

SUMMARY: The Computer Technician supports a Windows-based 1:1 learning environment in a public junior/senior high school setting. This individual is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of student and staff devices, network peripherals, and instructional technology systems. The technician collaborates with faculty, staff, and district technology personnel to ensure seamless integration of technology into the academic environment and alignment with district instructional goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide front-line technical support for all hardware and software issues related to Windows laptops and desktops assigned to students and staff.
  • Perform diagnostics, maintenance, imaging, updates, and repairs of Windows devices in the 1:1 program.
  • Support users with device setup, software installation, password resets, and connectivity troubleshooting.
  • Manage inventory and asset tracking of all school-issued devices, peripherals, and related equipment.
  • Assist with student laptop distribution, collection, and lifecycle replacement events.
  • Manages student-led helpdesk program including student technician training.
  • Ensure appropriate functioning of printers, classroom display technology (e.g., projectors, interactive whiteboards), and peripheral equipment.
  • Supports staff with the student information system (SIS) for attendance, grades, discipline and other functions of the SIS.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff to support the effective use of technology in the classroom.
  • Maintain documentation of support activities, procedures, and incidents using district-approved systems (e.g., help desk/ticketing software).
  • Follow data security, FERPA, and district guidelines for the protection of student information.
  • Participate in technology-related training and professional development.
  • Assist in maintaining schoolwide wireless access and connectivity in collaboration with the districts network administrators.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or equivalent coursework in Information Technology or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience supporting Windows operating systems in an enterprise or educational environment preferred.
  • Experience supporting 1:1 student technology initiatives in K-12 schools is a plus.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficiency in Windows 10/11 operating systems, Microsoft Office 365, and remote management tools.
  • Familiarity with device imaging, deployment tools (e.g., Microsoft Endpoint Manager), and inventory systems.
  • Understanding of basic networking concepts (IP addressing, wireless connectivity, printers).
  • Excellent problem-solving and customer service skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical users.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Physical ability to lift and move equipment up to 40 pounds, crawl under desks, and perform repairs.
