Your Day to Day
  • Solicits accurate pricing from qualified vendors and suppliers.
  • Evaluates bids for assigned projects. Recommends vendors and suppliers.
  • Defines or confirms scope of concrete work and produces a written scope sheet.
  • Prepares quantity takeoffs for self-perform concrete work and inputs to pricing sheet.
  • Prepares initial schedule analysis for projects being pursued.
  • Provides comprehensive estimates with detailed line items relevant for concrete work of each project.
  • Maintains effective and professional relationships with owners, architects, engineers, and contractors.
  • Develops full understanding of the scope and interdependence of all contract documents as they relate to the specific scope of work assigned.
  • Manages effective document control mechanisms regarding SPW concrete projects to ensure that work is performed in accordance with contract documents and/or department specifications.
  • Evaluates and assists change order requests including design changes, specifications and drawing releases and reports status.
  • Assists the SPW Project Manager in the maintenance of effective cost control mechanisms for the project as it relates to historical cost gathering efforts.
  • Build employee skills and competencies through frequent, real-time coaching and sharing specific, actionable knowledge with team members through, daily touch points and monthly one-on-one coaching sessions. Act as an advocate for employees by identifying and extending development opportunities that support team members' progress and success.
  • Understands and utilizes safe work practices and follows directives, policies, and procedures for assisting and maintaining a healthy and safe work environment as it relates to estimating on projects.
  • Maintains effective and professional relationships with owners, architects, engineers, and contractors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

  • Performing thorough, detailed and accurate analysis.
  • Communicating effectively, verbally and in writing, to ensure understanding of estimates in the bid process, with concrete project managers as well as with vendors.
  • Accepting constructive criticism and dealing effectively with high-stress situations.
  • Maintaining a relentless focus on meeting and exceeding customer needs and expectations.
  • Building effective relationships with customers, design team, subcontractors, suppliers, and user groups that reflect and support company core values and meets or exceeds the customer's expectations.
  • Actively participating in industry, client, and community relations to enhance company image.
  • Making presentations to proactively seek new business opportunities through relationships.
  • Promoting and communicating Jacobsen values, vision and purpose. Serving as a role model and promoting professional behavior.
  • Participating in and supporting operations training programs and committing to the development of project staff and of self.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Building Construction, Building Science or other equivalent program is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in the construction and/or engineering industry
  • An Estimator with internal experience or several years of experience in concrete construction.
