Concrete Finisher Journeyman

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following. Other job-related duties may be assigned:

• Coordinates with material suppliers and signals concrete deliverer to position truck to facilitate pouring concrete.
• Moves discharge chute of truck, hoses, or conveyor equipment to direct concrete into forms.
• Spread concrete into inaccessible sections of forms with rake or shovel.
• Levels concrete to specified depth and workable consistency, with handheld screed and floats to bring water to surface and produce soft topping.
• Smooths, and shapes surfaces of freshly poured concrete.
• Finishes concrete surfaces, or wets and rubs concrete surface to properly finish.
• Finishes and smooths surface of concrete using ride on trowel machines and walk behind finishing equipment, and hand finishes edges and small areas with hand trowels.
• Removes rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces, and patches holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound.
• Molds expansion joints and edges, and saw cuts control joints in concrete surfaces
• Sprinkles colored stone chips, powdered steel, or coloring powder on concrete to produce prescribed finish.
• Applies spray on curing
• Produces rough concrete surface with broom when specified.
• Mix cement with hoe or concrete-mixing machine.
• Directs subgrade prep work and confirms subgrade elevations prior to concrete placement.
• Assists with mixing of concrete when required and setting of formworks.
• Assists with layout and placement of concrete embedments such as anchor bolts, dowels, and steel plates.
• Required to work at various heights using ladders, scaffolding and other equipment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School graduate or GED equivalent. Completion of Concrete Finisher Apprenticeship or equal experience

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or more up to 100 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
